i have recently tried playing a caster and each time i have died due
to not noticing that my armouir goes down or b/c it goes down after the first
bash, er, hit after bash...and then all of a sudden 5 orcs come in room and
beat me to a pulp.
I don't mind, it is just part of the game i suppose :)

Tho my 280hps and 42% natural armour helps...
and i usually dont flee the fight before hps are under 80..

Yes, you are wrong, Desastre. You attempt to autoflee once (at most, under certain circumstances, twice) per round, no matter how many hits or spells you take. If not bashed you can flee manually, but if bashed this one (or two) time per round is your only chance.

It has not always been like this but was made this way sometime around 1995 - I believe to make life harder for maxwimpy players...

Not quite right there either, You get one flee for each of you turn, that gives smiter like 1 attempt each bash, and piercers abit more

Well to not eat a bash, you flee after not more than a second of being engaged with a warrior. Like I said I generally don't follow that advice unless fighting trolls. *ouch*

When you have 150+ defences, there's another way of not eating a bash -
dodge it! I just didn't have the luck here I guess... Anyway that's what
I was thinking, and since I had armour up and fine hps and all, I felt
pretty sure I could survive a bash... but no! :-P
