Here are a couple ideas that i think would make alot of the oldies come back, a
1. fortify grinder. reinstall bluedoor (nobreak/nobash/noblock)
   and have maybe 5 grey trolls instead of 2, as well as
   5 bashing cave trolls. this would make it less of whities
   just saying 'hey, lets go do grinder' and doing it.
2. fortify noc! today i ran around inside ore pits solo
   and chased an awful snap around for 10 mins before
   defence triggered, and when it did trigger, i had NO
   trouble getting out (on 450 ms link). bleh! also the
   other day we killed all of noc with 8 or so whities,
   should take 30 imho. we were standing n of takhr
   just whackin em. should add 30 or so elites, maybe
   5 orc bodyguards at drafty instead of those 3 pussies
   that die in like 2 quakes.
3. make ologs sense better! bns should not eat stabs at 
   ologs, as they need some place to rest without having
   to block themselves in. ologs should spamsearch ALL
   the time.
4. remove a few hardons, and make em not track as far.
   the other day i got an orc to wounded, tracked him 
   and found corpse w of neni with like 10 hardons
   around it. methinks he got pingponged *shrug*
5. make it so OOC can turn whitie, but it is VERY
   hard, and tbad can turn darkie, but equally as difficult.
6. increase troll barehand ob. when you have trolls running
   around wearing bejewelled shields and engraved broadswords,
   you know something is wrong. that'd be like me poking someone
   with a toothpick...it just doesn't work!
7. make it harder to multiclass, even at very high level. imho
   extreme high levels don't deserve even more advantages than
   increased spellsave and whatever else. smiting thieves,
   bashing thieves, blinding mages should not be so great.
8. increase casting time on call lightning, and have some sort
   of warning, such as 'Clouds begin to gather over Galadon...'
   then 1 second later, the call hits. this way people dont
   lose 300 hps without warning, as i think this is kinda ridiculous!
9. let bns have staves not as good as, but atleast somewhere in
   the same ballpark as whitie staves. i mean jeez, a good
   whitie with a maxattack staff vs a good bn with whatever he's
   got, the victor is purty clear.
10.make it so groups of 4+ have either huge group lag, randomly
   lose people without a message, or SOMETHING! everyone 
   complains that hugegroups are fucking up the game, so change it?


just my 2 cents. i think any or all of these changes would
boost MUME's population and fun hugely!

1 2 are kinda extreme, but yea make it tougher, 10 i kinda like imho groupsof +4 are for balrog and dragon only the random losing thing is kinda gay i dont agree with #7 you put all yuor time into that char you should get advantages i really like #4

I agree with everything except the multiclass one.
Multiclassing is one on the best features of mume, you don't pick your skills
at character creation. Plus, more people would be willing to solo if they
have bob, cure serious, etc... Doing away with multiclassing would INCREASE
hugegrouping, imho.

I don't agree with the no multiclass, I think that is a cool feature of
the game. I also think dt shouldn't be fortified, as when there were more
darkies on it used to be dangerous enough to try to take it as whities. But
I really think that something should be done about the hugegrouping. Perhaps
make it so that los and melee depended both on nubmer of people already engaged
and on number of sameside in your room not doing anything. Then you could
get melee even as the first hitter if you were hugegrouped. That would make it
much easier to run from a hugegroup for one. I really think that would
solve some of the hugegrouping problems, and would be the most important
change on that list, though grinder is pretty important too.

The really sucky thing about melee is that, as a solo char, you can attack
a group of 4 pukes and get no line of sight on spells!
As if any futher disadvantage was needed!

Are all very very bad suggestions only leads to more huge grouping if you need 30-40 pukes to raid instead of 10+

and rackhir, of course it should take like more then 8 pukes to clear noc. a group of 8 trolls wouldent be able to do bree and fnost. darkies need like ehum... 18+ to do bree and fnost. of course puke defense is more organized but hey darkies are more brutal and harder. i just cant understand how a hardon ranger is harder then an orc patrol. like 8 hardons would clean noc. while 8 darkie patrols would be slayed in bree and fnost.

How bout add in the removal of portal and teleport. Those spells were obviously not in the books or the war would have lasted long enough for Gandalf to regen mana. And Fredde, please read the books and you'll know why rangers are tougher than orc patrols. Rangers KICKED major ass.

Sure the dark riders came west but those where different times and u cant compare
any player with a nazgul. Also Orcs where alot more whimps only powering in numbers
not in strenght or skill.
Orcs ran when gandalf wielded the elf sword behind the crack....And that was a
tiny "puke" group.
Also problem with boosting defenses would be u meet even bigger groups raiding

Only Tolkinish thing i would miss would be bn warriors..
Alotto of us ppl miss fighting ppl like Bnwari :)
Other than that beside 3 + 8 i totally Disagree with u

Umm...i wouldn't call a group of 13 dwarves, one hobbit and gandalf a 'tiny' pukegroup...for me it looks more like raiding noc...after all, in 'the Hobbit' gandalf managed to whack gg without much trouble...lots of orcs died in caves but no pukes...:(

I like some of the ideas. Several people have said that changing mume won't work, you have to change the people. I disagree. I think that in general, the people of mume (esp. those around a long time) don't like losing. As such, ppl feel like they need to get all the best eq in order to compete, which makes them twice as pissed off when they lose. Recent changes have made it too easy to lose playing darkie, therefore, a majority of those folks who don't like to lose are now playing puke. I don't know what the answer is. I personally like playing darkie even though I die more and it is more difficult. It just doesnt bother me as much to lose I guess.

about thorin and co. in 'hobbit'-they were pure newbies who got beaten by orcpatrol at high pass... They got some exp later to fight for erebor. So, they got exp for not only killing, but for clue and ideas, maneuvers (more like merp, ad&d). If all legends get their status for clue-ideas exp, there would be only few pukelegends and spamming assist in hugegroup would be pointless:)

btw, by tolkien some lvl60+ could solo balrog (gandalf did with efort of life...). There were dudes who nukes in solo dragon or 70 troll-mobs... Why not?

i generally play darkie cus i like having fun, and i dont find playing puke that much fun..
i like darkies cus they stick upp for eachother.. when a puke dies... none cares.. when someone is in deep shit.. none cares.. they start caring when they have something to gain.. like getting the chance to overkill a suntrapped troll, or finding a moveless orc in wswept, or porting in on an already inblocked bn with 5 ppl..

this is not a whine log evan, i just see alot of players leaving and was
trying to throw out a suggestion to stop this trend. mebbe not all ideas
were good, that's why i didnt put on the idea board, and that's why i
put 'NOT A REAL LOG', so people wouldn't flame me too much, cause
that gets old and boring to scroll down a list of comments that are all flames.

1)Hardons roam all across arda, but are fewer in numbers.
2)Elves should be able to kill 10+ legend orcs solo.
3)Big armies of the west move around all the time.
4)Hobbits can disguise themselves as orcs/trolls/bns.
5)A dragon can be killed with one arrow.
Etc, etc...
How many darkies would want to play then?

Erm, some ppl should really read more of the books. Gandalf was no level 60 puke, he was a MAIA. Same way that all balrogs are maiar. I SERIOUSLY doubt that any mortal on arda could have killed a balrog at that time, though it had happened a couple of times before. To make a long story short, noldorin elves should be able to whack any other char on mume :)

Imo we should have ringwraiths in mume, like top 9 bns (exp-wise or wps maybe) would get nice rings from Sauron, and those would be more powerful than puke foci.

Ah, and i hope everyone remembers the battle of helm's deep. Where Legolas killed 41 orcs with his dagger and Gimli 42 with his axe, all in a single blow :) Ah and every now a then a pack of ent mobs should raid noc, like 10 willows or so :)

There were no mortal (using the term to include elves) casters in Tolkien... at least nothin like in mume. Also, mume spells are essentially all AD&D spells... they have nothing to do with Tolkien. Also, it'd be nice to finally see the One Ring imped. People have said that it would unbalance the game, but I think it could be done reasonably. Make it an artifact that gives something like +10 ob, +10 pb, shroud that doesn't dissipate when hit, +2 spell, and some spell save. Granted, it'd make one char rocking, but even the strongest chars die eventually. It could load somewhere on Gollum, and involve a very-muddled quest to acquire.

I like the nazgul idea. I don't think the 9 rings should be more powerful
than a whitie focus, as there were elf lords that could ride openly against
multiple of the 9. Rather, I think that something commensurate in power
should be granted, like the same spell speed and mana drop, as well as the
effects of a copper. And, the bn with the ring could still make a normal
unfocused attack staff to add to that. On an unrelated note, I think that the
ranger response to a multiple darkie group is just fine, but that truly
solo darkies shouldn't be chased by the rangers as much. Hit and chased for a
single zone or two if they are truly solo.

Really, if you read LotR, its pretty clear that Gandalf used control weather
and call lightning on weathertop, that the Witch King used darkness and break
door at Minas Tirith, and Gandalf used create light on Caradhras, etc etc

...and I would write about the changes I think need to be made to MUME if it wasn't for 2 things. 1st, I'm at work and can't log on to MUME, but -do- have access to the Net, so I can write here. And 2nd, I've often written ideas both on the idea board and on the common boards, and have rarely if ever received any feedback or some indication that anyone has ever read them.

Was maybe uncorrect, sorry... About books..hehe, well has been reading tolkien when was some 12 years old (so over TEN years ago,wooh=P). Hobbit, lotr, silm... Well, at MERP(middle-earth roleplaying) was balrog lvl60 maia and gandalf kinda same... Yes, only powerful chars had in lotr spells (saruman, gandalf nazgul). Rings should be, not some hugegrps... And at bree i have sat only when awfully lagged or decaynig. And also there wouldn't be so much highlvl chars at bree when not so much hugegrps... But up some 'tolkien-ideas board' what also makes ideas someday to reality!? And nazgul-quest is allready in work :) check out... (Must give credit marajade and thnx for help:) And if my ideas are not correct-sry...
