I like the idea of ents too. I think they could have loads of
mps (if i remember right, they could RUN!) and a purty good amount of hps,
but no spells, and fballs really hurt em hardcore. ah well, will prolly
never be considered since in the last 5 months of people quitting i haven't
seen management respond to it in any way. probably won't change now!
-Kodon the Great

ps-keep them good ideas comin nazzie
David2000-12-23 04:29:27
yeah.. iv been thinkin alot about new races aswell.. not as deep of a thought as you have put in to it tho.. but i like the idea.
Nepenthe2000-12-23 04:41:32
Half-orcs!
Kodon2000-12-23 04:43:05
half-orcs is 1 thing that prolly wouldn't happen, but i HAVE heard some
about goblins, a race that'd make shamans better. this could be
a race like elves that gets a mentals boost, and wouldn't make great
warriors (even though there are some crazyass defence elves these days)
but would be good casters. *shrug*
Guano2000-12-23 05:05:53
nice ideas!
Pilois2000-12-23 05:11:54
Half-Orcs do exist, there are already some halforc mobs in mume...also Tolkien decided that Goblins and orcs are the same thing...
Alweon2000-12-23 05:40:55
I like the werewolf idea, even though they werent mentioned (that i remember) in LOTR or the Hobbit. Would be neat to be weak man, by day, sorta powerful wolf by night. Talked to Naz about this one, so surprised he didn't mention it: Drow/Dark elves. Teleri elves that were involved in the kinslaying (killing their own). ATM, they are Noldorin elves in MUME... don't know why thats a good race =p They would be blind/virtually blind during the day, but very perceptive at night. They made good thieves, warriors, or magic users.
blah blah, too tired to think anymore...
Drayl2000-12-23 05:47:38
Um werewolves were mentioned in Silmarillion tho...
Nazgum2000-12-23 06:01:44
right, I forgot the Teleri... Noldorin elves really should
be on the evil side, I have NO idea why they are on the
good side...
Adron2000-12-23 06:12:03
Hmm yeah new stuff would make Mume less boring such as tons of quests. And if you think about the Whole Lord of the Rings series was started off by one quest, to destroy the ring. So by making a whole bunch of other quests would really get mume going again. Also some new artifacts/weapons/etc. would be nice for example Magic Books which can either help you Not back fire or increase the damage or speed of your spells and alot more not just for mages but for every class and race.
Ostu2000-12-23 06:51:53
I love the idea, really. But will be _extremely_ hard to balance it out, i doubt
there are enough active Vm's to do this :(
Ethar2000-12-23 07:19:00
noldos should NOT be evil, thats crazy talk, the only ones who didnt really repent were feanor and his sons (well they were all bound by the oath etc) but nothing made them evil. I think eastern/southern men is a great idea, a kind of warrior bn (even tho they wouldnt be numenorean) i think that could be imped and would not unbalance play alot...
Nazgum2000-12-23 07:41:28
well, personally I would prefer, if they DID imp new races, that the new ones would be WEAKER then the already existing ones. They would be there for variety and a change, not for added power. And I think yea new items and weapons are good, but they shouldn't be more powerful then old ones either, just diff setup or name/desc of other ones... VARIETY :)
Nepenthe2000-12-23 07:45:42
Kind of odd that everything has to be so Tolkien-esque, when there were zero characters in LOTR that were anything like Mume mages/clerics. Even the Istari were quite different. After all, practically all of Mume's spells are straight our of Dungeons and Dragons, just tweaked to fit gameplay.
Glain2000-12-23 09:18:01
I see no need to imp new races like the ones mentioned since most are already here in mobform. werewolves and vampires definately shouldnt exist in mume as playerchars since the only known examples of them in the books are much more comparable to smobs like the Balrog and the Dragon. Anyone who suggests Balrogs as pchars on mume should have his ass whooped. Noldor arent evil: Galadriel is a Noldo for crying out loud. So is Glorfindel(and almost all blond elves). Only suggestion that makes sense is dunlendings and ents. They MIGHT make good player races. Only thing to remember is that ents should have huge restrictions it would completely ruin the game to see *an ent* being offered a room by barliman butterbur. They should only move in forests and camp rent like fangorn in different locations. but they are no idea. Dunlendings should be weak and stupid. but perhaps with possibility to be either good or evil since they are actually neutral in the books.
Tharain2000-12-23 10:08:44
even if i don't play now, i can comment:D Vampires and werewolves were when Beleriand wasn't destroyed yet. Sauron was leader of many werewolves, at some island (don't remember name). Honestly, Nazgum-i like you tho you traped a lot, but MUME isn't rp game, and will not be unless MUME8 comes (!). So, no point even discuss all that, exping/pk mud can't change and managment never brings huge, new changes (like look noideas, if they would want changes they would report about em', best if any new zones will be open for you). Heck, spam:P (hope no1 didn't get point)
Aragazt2000-12-23 11:37:28
Werewolves and vampires were hardcore servants of Sauron, they had no free will, therefor they cant be player characters!
More Troll subraces is a good idea, but Trolls that can endure the sun would just imbalance the game too much!
Imagine barrow-wights raiding bree. Not really a good idea, huh? Besides, they never leave barrow downs!
Easterlings, Southron and Dunlendings should be bn subraces.
Ents would also imbalance the game too much, therefor not a good idea.
More eq is a very good idea! Also i think that warriors should be able to sail west and make themselves foci swords, that could be upgraded the same way mage staves are now.

Zanetha2000-12-23 11:47:45
Yes!Goblin-shamans and Ents( Somewhat similar with ofen used Treants?)
right.. and no instant sundeath to an olog troll..right :P
Anywyz, Nazz , post the idea=) post it until somone finally reacts to these things =)
Glader2000-12-23 11:48:26
Agree on Aragazt's kind of.
nushenak2000-12-23 11:48:53
if you would make a new race walk arda it shoudl be a evil race, harder then bn`s but better...
or simply make it possible to have bn warriors
that would rock ass!
Tharain2000-12-23 12:34:47
it's good idea to post idea til it will be done by gods:P btw, traps aren't so bad and maybe there will be new items and trash someday;) just spam god to death
Galadon2000-12-23 13:41:01
Ents could be worthless unless they are highlevel, but that's not the problem. They'd have to have some GIGANTIC disability, like a bn can burn them to death with a lantern or something since they don't sundie like the trolls. Or, if they die they die to level 1, or whatever
Fredde2000-12-23 13:44:57
make warriors sail west and upgrade swords... and while we are at it, why dont we give em sniper rifles and baazokas, pukes are already overpowerd. no need to make em better... to darkies should get something thats the oposite to glow swords or something like that..
Unknown2000-12-23 14:26:01
noldors and orcs grouping, good idea.
Manatark2000-12-23 14:57:15
Half-orcs!
Zarhuk2000-12-23 15:49:59
Nod Fredde , most of the changes would make whities even more "overpowered",
so if ya want to make one, you better give the darkies a better one .Still your ideas are very good and should be put into mume
Alweon2000-12-23 16:02:24
I would still like to see a dark elven race...
Unknown2000-12-23 17:01:47
there was no evil elves in lotr, no elves who would go near an orc without slaying it. want evil elves? go play fucking ad&d where they put everything they can think of in the game. Oh a floating ball with 8 eyes. cool!
Niccolo2000-12-23 17:30:07
I personally would like to see a new race or so in mume, but I doubt it would happen. Ents I believe are either noidea or the next thing to it. Vampires/Werewolves were things of the silmarilion and were abandoned by tolkien in LOTR. Wights never ran around in LoTR... I believe they were anchored to certain places and that wouldn't make for a viable character (but hey we have half-elves when there were no more than 6 in all of tolkiens works).

A snowtroll could probably be made into a troll subclass.

Southron, Easterling, Dunlending dont merit their own races aince they are human, but I dont see why they couldnt be a subrace. Perhaps the BN race could be changed to an evil *man* with Sourhton, Easterling, Dunlending, and Black Numenorean subraces.

SO really as far as a completely new race the only option that would be viable is half-orc. And with isenguard opening sometime in the next millenium I would have thought that would be a perfect race to imp. But it seems management has some hangup about the time frame in which sauruman made his half-orcs not being consistant with the time frame of mume. (as if there weren't sackville bagginses, people living in fornost, and people living in tharabd and a million other little time frame snafus on the mud)(not to mention a half-elf race existing when there were 3 half-elfs alive in lotr ...elrond and his spawn).

Btw haven't read lotr in a while...were the Drueidan(sp?) a separate race from man or were they just ugly men?
Ethar2000-12-23 17:30:32
easterlings and southroners wouldnt been bn subraces. Why? because they arent numenoreans!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tharain2000-12-23 17:35:30
ack! there should be also evil dwarves some (if they evil and want serve sauron they get some credit). In 'Hobbit' there was said some evil dwarves and elves fought for sauron. And half-orc is good idea, they should raid shire as in LotR:D (ents under noideas is foolish, look istari and thats one hella big NOIDEA-istar in form of eagle and bear, never liked it). It's nice anyways that ppl post their ideas here, gods get 25+ ideas in day and no1 never heards about em' again... keep going everyone
Drayl2000-12-23 19:42:35
Ok every fuckhead who says "there were no plaplapla in lotr plaplapla" should go read Silmarillion, LOTR really doesn't describe a tenth of the things of Tolkien's Middle-earth :/
Niccolo2000-12-23 20:33:50
*cackle* Ethar. I said make bn into a man race. Easterlings, Souterns, Bns all could be subraces of man!

Every fuckhead named Drayl should remember that mume is based on LOTR not on the silmarillion......
Bornack2000-12-23 20:34:27
erm... bn subraces and goblin shamans and a orc subrace that lives in moria ;O)
Azg2000-12-23 20:55:59
There are no DROW elves in Tolkien's book, there are dark elves which are elves that never saw the light of the trees in valinor, it doesn't mean they're evil. Drows are stupid evil elves in RA Salvatore's Forgotten Realms books. yeesh.
Ghostly2000-12-23 21:56:32
Niccolo - there is nothing wrong with Tharbad being inhabited. Mume is based in 2851, Tharbad was not ruined until 291x (can't remember the exact date). Fornost

As for Druedain, they were human (and there is already one mob in the game, with more to come). Much of this comes from the Silmarillion, or Unfinished Tales, or the History of Middle Earth series - all of which we use as well as LoTR.
Common Sense2000-12-24 00:51:59
Pukes overpowerd?*cackle* Yes yes, SOME pukes overpowerd Like Mages and Thiefs NOT warriors!!I have played mume a long time and All my puke warriors HAVE NOT been overpowerd unless im with a mage(:p). Hell on my troll (solo)pukes hero and legend warriors could not even scratch my troll becuase he had kick ass dodge and parry and he was a lowbie at the time and orcs think pukes are overpowerd because they forgot to look to see if they were in a sun lit room or not.
So anyway create foci on a sword is a excellent idea! It doesnt have to give you 50 ob pb db so it cant make pukes 'overpowerd' as most of you darkies complain about. It would be a nice way to make glow swords and maybe an evil glowsword for darkies. And also get rid of the gayest thing on this mud, no not norsu (although that is a good idea) but get rid of Level loss many people have quited mume becuase they lost a level and its just way to hard to level again and xp loss every time you die is well ok but level loss is just stupid its bad enough you die to a massive overkill *cough*norsu fag inco.*cough* and loss you hard earned eq but you also lose a level?! This should be changed!
Erim2000-12-24 01:40:40
Solo puke warriors are pieces of shit.
Mulefoot2000-12-24 06:04:13
Thier needs to be easier ways for warriors like Dwarves to become warlords. Look at the warlords list and you might find one dwarf the rest elves and most are casters. That sounds like overpowered to me. Thier should also be more balance on sides. Normally about 90 pukes to about 30 or 40 darkies on a good day for darkies. Thier should be a way to make legend dwarves stand a chance solo against solo Trolls. It seems to me that a level 10 troll could kick the crap out of level 20 dwarf. They would have similar hps and probally more ob for troll. (I maybe wrong still just a newbie)
Ethar2000-12-24 06:45:47
pat mulefoot
Kreil2000-12-24 07:04:04
Well.. if you want to know a dwarf who chases solo Trolls all over. Talk to Forin. I would say he could most likely go head to head against most trolls of equal lev/eq/link. I don't recall any of the lev 10 trolls I have had being able to hit 'anything'...so I think a lev 20 dwarf should be able to win that one.
Nepenthe2000-12-24 08:28:50
Yes yes, massively reduce xp loss for mobdeaths. Has got to be the most pointless "feature" (bug?) of this game. Even pk xp loss is a major bitch... the only aspect of the game that it adds to is frustration.
Butter2000-12-24 13:05:10
I never had any problems of warlording, noone can beat a big mean DWARF!
Prist2000-12-24 17:23:56
Yup, give dwarves just as much hps as trolls have and more ob than trolls and make them so that when they go to a dark room the will be regressed to lvl 1... cute idea, eh? :)
Alweon2000-12-24 17:37:33
Haven't read appendices in a while but I don't remember it being said that Numenoreans were weak. I remember them as strong warriors that were banished to their island because of their evil conquering reigns. Also, I believe ents would be bloody overpowered. #1 In the battle of Isengard I seem to remember them batting trolls around no problem, as well as many orcs. #2 Their only weaknesses were fire and axes. So unless they meet a fireball using mage or an axe wielding warrior, they would pretty much rock everyone. #3 They had insane moves as they could run HUGE distances without any problem. (Not that everyone and his mother can't circle arda in 10 minutes with a BoBer already =p) Don't even think of making an ENT lore that give insane move regen... the problem with moves atm is that they regen too quickly as it is.
Ethar2000-12-24 19:23:28
i dont remember there being trolls at the battle of isengard :p
Mulefoot2000-12-25 02:30:36
I not saying that it should be easy for dwarves but i think that casters might rock a little to much. And last time i checked warlords list i did not see Butter just the dwarf stud Forin. So congratz Forin! And again like i said i more or less still a newbie but the only troll i played had almost as many hps at level 6 as my dwarf at level 15 or so and ob was getting close to. And my dwarf seems about the same as most dwarfs in the way of stats, hps and ob! Exept for sundeath trolls seem like they should be real bad ass! Just thinking!
Reef2000-12-25 13:46:43
*pat* Mulefoot...again. Try heading outside with your level 6 troll and hitting ANYTHING...then come back and tell me all about it.
Unknown2000-12-26 14:13:38
stop thinking with your foot and use your brain.
Jocke2000-12-28 06:35:51
To Ghostly
Tell me why old south road is named Greenway, if Thatbad is still inhabited?
As faar as i remember, the Old South Road was only named Greenway after Tharbad
was put to ruins and people stoped using the road.
