It was an obvious trap, but i actually thought we could get Nazgum before his
instakilling squad arrived to bring the trap to an end, and walk out. Bad!
My calculation proved to be wrong. I first tried to spam open/flee a few times
(where i acutally opened for Lowyn and Galadon) but when the block finally came
i decided to rock myself out. To late though, as i had already spammed to much
open/flee. I performed mu rock break command in Mandos. :)

One last thing, Nsl was trying to trap fence... We knew if
we lured they would send a scout but he would get out simply
due to their links, and with others on other side spamming
open. So the only way to get them to come was to have
one enter solo and let them see you are solo with their scout,
and sit their eating damage waiting for rest to enter before
you can bring your troops in. That's how it had to be done,
and I truthfully expected to die in fence, but I had hoped
door would be blocked and pukes would die as well...
Neither happened and fingeror died from a skirmish,
nothing more.

Naz is good player, but he should go a bit more solo like he did before, he has stab/bash/crush he can get nice solo kills. Traping is boring mostly, well sometimes its nice to trap some whores or get eq, but doing it whole day realy sucks. And in this trap the purple saved Nazgum's ass, nice bad->purple->azure(25hps)->wounded->dispel->wounded, without that u could rip maybe.

Berin, I shouldn't speak for Nazgum, but here's what I imagine would happen should he run around solo: Nazgum attacks someone, they narrate 'Nazgum here at XXX', local puke supergroup (or groups) run to spot 3 seconds later, Nazgum now has to flee all the way back to warrens or noc, or lead them to a trap. So you see, his play style is pretty much forced on him by the incredible numerical advantage pukes currently hold.

I chose to ignore the depressing fact that Fingeror died (one of my all time favourite Mume chars *lick*), but read the narrates instead. It Thumallina that slept Burzum, who beeped Nazgum, who then got stabbed by me. To fine. He still thought it was less than sporting (though, he's a good chap really). The narrates therefore made me chuckle. The death of a *true* legend did not :P

Well, I've got to agree with Lochdale and disagree with the majority of the people complaining here and criticizing Nazgum. Yes, Nazgum traps. But until any of you play from a crappy North American link (I believe Nazgum plays from an ever dangerous modem connection that clocks in around 33.8), you probably shouldn't be casting stones. I guarantee if you played from a crap link, you'd do a lot less Nazgum "bashing" and a lot more Nazgum-style trapping. But until you decide to pack up and come play a couple nights of MUME from my house, you probably will continue labeling Nazgum "lame." But here's the question I ask anyone to answer: if Nazgum is so lame and all he does is trap, how come he keeps getting away with it? In other words, if that's all he does, why do people keep falling for it? And don't use the old "well, they're newbies" excuse. Clearly Jocke is not a newbie; IMHO, he's one of the three best players in the entire game. And finally, I do think this was brave on Nazgum's part: he was standing there waiting for portal to come through getting himself whacked. And then there's always that chance that Grunge brought up (i.e. Prist backfiring). If you can't pat Nazgum on the back for his bravery here, then it would probably be best to not say anything at all.

Nazgum, what can I say, you rock! When you're playing vs superlinked labbies, trapping's the way to do it, then so be it, and that was one of the best traps in a long time! Only problem why did block come so late?

To be fair, I don't disapprove Norsu style either, I think it's a good way to go vs uncatchable thieves and things, but I do recommend not fighting Rogon group if possible. Just leave quickly, storeport if ya have to, but get out.

After the portal came, we went some east so trolls would at least have to walk a little before spamkilling at us. Unfortunately another group with Trassel came by and got stomped (think only Trassel died though). After you add in all the trolls, orcs, and BNs, was over 10 darkies there who portalled in to kill 3 of us. Nazgum may have some skill, but the only thing I've seen lately are traps and overkills from him. he can blame link all he wants, but there are others who play from crap links (Iranon, Grunge for example) that don't HAVE to do that crap constantly to succeed.

I got 122 maxmana, portal takes 97, block 30... simple arithmetics: 122-97-30= -5 That means that after portal I was short of 5 mana so I couldn't block it, just spammed close till had enough to block... I'm just a bn, not some pukemage with a staff who can locate/portal/block and unload some spells before out of mana...

Yes Lochdale, they are. You can escape easily enough from a group of 3 smiting orcs poisoned, I've done it plenty of times after going to NOC alone. With preperation and skill you at least have a chance to live. Usually people who die to poisoning orcs are slowlinked people who haven't gotten down how to flee yet or chars who are not really made for the current times (ie they have no rem poison abilities, herblores or otherwise). It's a rare rare occasion someone considired a good player dies to poisons. But being blocked in a room filled with no hope of winning, fleeing, etc ... Btw, what does poisoning have to do with me? Been quite a while since any of my chars have used it actively. None of my chars even know envenom for that matter. I of course do not make the same claim for Rogon of Courage though hehe

actually tempest, traps are much fairer then poison... if you know the zones you will never a trap without knowing it is one. With poison I've seen people go insta exhaust from fine moves and shit.

While I agree arachnia is overpowered (taking away mana too? that's kinda silly, it doesn't take away *that* many moves. If you started out at tired moves it might drain away all your moves though. But that's where preperation comes in! Even without poison you should be prepared for occasions when you have no/low moves and are in trouble. Draughts, vellums, lores, bob, pbs, you name it, lots of ways to get yourself a few moves so you can fix your problems. Any bets if someone got a lucky arachnia in on you Nazgum, you'd prob still live? Why? Cause you are a decent player who knows how to survive. Also, don't you criticize me for not charging after you in closables? I guess I'm only doing what you just said was a way to avoid traps!

I am no presonal friend of trapping in general, but I do however not criticize
those who choose to play this way. Even though trapping makes the game less
interesting for the majority, everyone decides their way of playing. That is
why i try not to join the whining part of those who comment on mume.net and
thats why i say nothing bad about Nazgum and his traps nor anyone elses playing
style. Nazgum and many others of you do however need to drop their arrogance
and their really bad attitude towards other players. Labeling other players
UBERSLUT etc is only shows an immature personality in desperate need of attention.
I would also like to point out that your comparision between diferent link speeds
(that link is 20 times faster)etc only shows how little you know about how an
Internet connection really works. You can not simply measure two different
connections that way. From looking at how Nazgums link is behaving in PK i would
say he has a rather fast connection for a north american, with a very low packet
loss. I would say his link is not all that bad as he wants us to belive.

Btw, i have a personal question for Nazgum. It looks to me like you had no
specific target for the trap as you were willing to start the trap with only
1 person in the room. you start to narrate 'NOW' when only Galadon had entered
the room. Were you satisfied with trapping 1 caster with 6 trolls ad a BN?

When all of us know you were actually playing slower in order to bait. I can clearly
tell when you are "bluffing" a slower link and when you are actually trying to get
away. This time you were faking the slow fleeing in order to get us interested.
When you are actually trying to get away its practically impossible to catch you.
That is the main reason why i smell trap, and that is the main reason why i'd say
your link isn't as bad as you want ppl to belive.

From my experience with nsl one scouts trap rest wait outside
then if they can win they storm. Soon as galadon saw just
me I knew others would come, and I know portal etc takes
time so I narrated NOW soon as he saw I was solo inside.

The uberslut label is almost 2 years old, and me and lowyn
simply do not play well together. It's there for my
amusement, I haven't seen her in ages in pk and didn't
even know it was there til this log.

I realize the difference in linkspeed from 10 ms to 50 ms
is not 5x, and is closer to the same speed, but my link
is not as good as it looks in pk. Everything I do is
prespammed and not calculated, that may make me look
fast, but it's not the case. Lately my link has been
so bad I can only leave noc during late night my time,
otherwise it's just too laggy.

Perhaps some hyperbole on my part but lets be serious, even the worst Swede link is significantly better then an American link. Even with a dsl there are so many router issues from the US to Norway that I think Swede protestations ring very hollow.

No question there is a big advantage to having a 'swede link', but what I think Jocke meant is that Nazgum's link looks faster than most North American and is hardly as bad as Nazgum claims.

Thes best link I ever got from Chicago was 150ms via a t-3. I just called a techie buddy at a client of mine and asked him explain (in laymans terms) about differnet connetion speeds and the variables that can affect them. There is no contest. PLaying from a Swede link or any link that limits the number of routers is a HUGE advantage. Now this has nothing to do with bandwith or connection speed etc. Its a simple matter of geography (in this instance, it can be different under certain circumstances). Nazgum's link may be better but it is still comparing a volvo to a porsche when you need acceleration.

The important thing isnt the ms on pings, the really IMPORTANT thing is the packet loss. It's time you realised this! With 200ms and 0% packet loss its no problem whatsoever to play mume, but with 100ms and 20% packet loss, it easily gets completely unplayable.

Risk of packet loss increase exponentially vis a vis the number of routers required to connect to mume. There are less via a Swedish link, thus the chance of package loss is that much less. It really is apples and oranges,

nice theory and of course complete bullshit. At times i have 50% packet loss. and i dare say i'm in sweden!

I have played from swedish links with so much packet loss that even exping was
impossible. It depends on where you live in sweden too, no only the fact that
you live IN sweden, or norway, or denmark or finland(all wich should have about
the same links).
