yah.. well.. who has never seen this before?
i dont get it.. why was it ok before when rangers didnt exist.. did many ppl complain about darkies comming west? wtf, its a game.. its ment to be fun.. fighting the opposite race when you are a newbie.. is LOADS of fun..

Yeah, fighting Nushenak at lvl1 in shady was definetly fun!
Especially since i won!
Alcion2001-03-04 15:16:40
Well, before rangers wandered around you had 50 total def as bn west of nis - so
the rangers hit shatter with fresh spells up. /;) Think alot of ppl liked it when they got some ob/def as they approached mid-westeren zones. Sure the game is supposed to be fun not "darkie-fun-only". I would like the keep whatever defense I have and these rangers, although I'm loud and in capslock when I meet 'em on rtf/gw/rtt. *spit* Wonder what my point was...
Focus2001-03-04 15:51:32
We all been through that. *comfs*. I think it was explained on some board, that for now, the code doesnt check if rangrers "pile up" in some certain area. The total number of them etc is quite oki, but they should keep to their own area, not group up and chase a solo BN. If there was 15 orcs, then sure...let the rangers come as an army.
fredde to nambo2001-03-04 15:58:56

Alcion2001-03-04 16:54:29
Erh, I just finished a session with my shaman in wedmath - I met rangers gw, walking in group of 3 and 4, moved rtf - same shit there. Jesus Christ Suppastar, have the number of'em been increased last week? It's ridiculous, hehe,.. change of mind.
Alweon2001-03-04 17:26:42
Here is a little theory: One solo bn is not much of a threat to the forces of the western armies. One solo bn gets completely decimated by the 8 orso rangers that patrol rtf. An orc pack consisting of 2 groups of 4 IS a threat to the forces of the western armies but isn't really affected by the hardened rangers as they just kill them horribly. Seems to me that the management whether they are concious of it or not is promoting huge raids on the western fronts (Bree/Fornost).
Alweon2001-03-04 17:31:00
'nother point: The main people that hang around bree/fornost are in the mid-level range and don't really have that great equipment. I find that I leave more than 90% of the loot left on corpses over there. What the hell does a level 16 really lose when dying to a solo bn or a couple orcs? Absolutely squat, so what is the point of protecting them so much, unless you want to protect them from the interesting experience that the odd pk event will give them. I loved it when I was a newbie and I would come across Labero or Liekki as it gave me something to look forward too (kicking their asses when i was high level... apparantly i still need more developing!)
Azg2001-03-04 17:43:17
Can we please find some middle road where a BN can sneak into bree/fnost area without dying to 10 rangers but have defense enough to kill the 15+ darkies who camp OERMG. What about re-instating the maluses and decreasing hardons?
David2001-03-04 17:52:34
nod alcion, thats the biggest dream for newbies .. spank others in combat =P
and what better place to learn how to pk.. then when they are like 3 zones from safety.. and fighting one player.. instead of constantly dying to hugegroups, because we all know its easier to die to a hugegroup then to one single player..
Zoone2001-03-04 18:05:42
rangers are a big pain in my ass when i'm out w, but it is more rpish that
way. orcs/bns never raided bree solo, and if you wanna go kill newbies you
should need a group. i think rangers should be downgraded, but if someone is
solo, they SHOULD get fucked up if they go w and think they can run the
place.
balzak2001-03-04 18:11:56
i have gotten beaten many times by rangers, did you lose armour first then shield? 11 is alot to run from
Graendal2001-03-04 18:27:04
*pat* Iranon. Rtf area is only fun for bns if you play from a 25ms/stable link. After 3 linkless mobdeaths to rangers from full hps I vowed to stay south of morthan and east of nen.
Maedhros2001-03-04 18:44:12
I am sure we will consider the proposal to up the number of hardened rangers. I am glad someone else feels that the defence in the west is too weak.

err.. did you mean.. get more rangers maedhros!?!?!??!?!? !
Molak2001-03-04 19:20:40
the thing is, is that bree has been terrorized probably the last 5 days in a row (that ive been playing anyway) by large groups of darkies, and the rangers seldom do anything without the aid of pukes, it is only when pukes and rangers show up that rangers are any threat. just my opinion anyway
Voile2001-03-04 19:41:02
Would it be possible to code the hardons so that they will get los if other rangers are already fighting ? Ie: We could maximise the number of hardons acutally hitting to 2 times number of darkies in room or so ?
Alcion2001-03-04 19:41:28

Crazy kung-fu fighting! I really AM in awe :) You rock Iranon...
Moonglum2001-03-04 23:37:09
Rangers were put in to keep raids west (Bree, Fornost, etc) to a minimum. I don't really agree with it but that's the way it is. I assume that if rangers were really doubled recently, it was done in direct response to the increase in raids west recently. Where 'safe' exp areas used to be shire and west gods decided, some time ago, that up to neni and down to morthan should be safe exp areas for pukes. I wouldn't be surprised if rangers 'learn' how to enter troll tunnels when constructed in these areas as well. You don't see me out west much - there's a good reason for it. Those rangers are NASTY!
Torment2001-03-04 23:50:48
Yes,the raids west have increased over the last few weeks, and for a good reason. Whities these days are fucking pathetic and hide west unless they are a lab group these days. As a darkie, you normally play to pkill. If there are no whities east, you go where the whities are, which these days is hiding in Bree. Making more rangers won't make whitie legends get out of Bree and fight east. Dunno what the solution is, but this is the main reason for all the raiding of late.
Malak2001-03-05 00:43:29
I completely agree with Torment. The more rangers you put there, the more darkies are gonna come west to fight them. Unless we find someway to stimulate the pukes into coming e of neni bridge, this situation will never be resolved.
Daevia2001-03-05 01:08:26
Stop being a gayass poison whore, might help.
Prist2001-03-05 01:25:19
Well, the more rangers they put there, the bigger groups go w... it used to be ok to go to bree solo, then they cnaged rangers so it was hard to go w solo but still ok in groups of 3 or so... now they put even MORE rangers there so that basically FORCES us to go w with groups of 5+ to manage rangers... and as long as pukes stay in bree, darkies will come there all the time to have at least _some_ fun... and maybe xp on rangers as well... *cough* anyway, i won't go w as a solo bn any more, i better get bunch of warriors with me as backup...
liart2001-03-05 02:59:47
I think the largest reason pukes dont fight east anymore is because you get poisoned like 5 times per hour as a puke east of rdell, which is quite annoying, if you dont have a labgroup with rem poison of course. My suggestion is to make high envenom skill needed for poisoning. Right now 1 prac and a shaman with rem is enough. If you had to put 20prac in it to make it work it might not be as popular.
Finwë2001-03-05 06:51:04
I think Liart has a point.
Shriek2001-03-05 07:13:46
Actually, all you really need to make it work is one prac, and the antidote lore... It lasts some hour or so? And you can keep poisoning over and over and over...
Nepenthe2001-03-05 08:47:59
Rangers just encourage big raids. They're hell for one or two darkies lurking around Bree/Fornost, but no threat at all for groups of 4 or more.
Dizz2001-03-05 10:32:11
exactly ... Rangers just encoruage bigger groups around bree , reason you rarely see solo orc or orc groups of 2-3 is because they get spanked by rangers alone ...whats the point of going west then???
Astar2001-03-05 14:12:42
Once again I have to say: rangers doesn't do a shit to protect whities, they are
put there to ANNOY darkies. Muddle is muddle, no matter how you code it, it is
_stupid_ and is easy to fool. I had a 30ms link for a week or two and was running around Bree/Fornost solo for hours and slaying tons of mid/lowlevels. You just have to run, run, and run again, then those hardons pairs almost never reach you. But if your link is slow or unstable, then you are in deep shit.
Johannes2001-03-05 15:02:37
:-( I hate seeing Iranon die, but I don't see why any darkie should not risk his life going between Bree and Fornost. It just ain't darkie territory really. It does seem overdoing it in this case though, and I guess pk'ers HAVE to go to Bree or Fornost to find pukes sometimes, but still. I don't get the rush killing newbies really. That is, not if it costs a mobdeath :-P
Grimble2001-03-05 16:15:49
If all the gayers would get out of their hugegroups and clean the poison off of their warswords, there would be a lot more fun pkill in other areas than bree.
Alweon2001-03-05 17:33:10
We in a catch 22 situation. Pukes hide bree, Darkie pack goes bree since none out east, darkies smoke rangers, rangers get doubled, darkies still smoke rangers, darkies decide they are bored and spam e to rent. Next day repeat. We need some way to get pukes east. And i like Liart's idea. (THough poison is nice, because I could run from noc to bree in under 4 ticks with bob mana, and that is just lame... toss some poison into me, i become less mobile.)
Grimble2001-03-05 17:51:20
Or just sell antidotes at the local grocer for 10 silver a piece, and dont let em decay. Then poison would be pretty much worthless. It would be funny to see how many people would bitch/retire if that happened hehe.
Raichu2001-03-05 18:08:09
Why make poisons useless they are in the game to be used. *peer Grimble*
Grimble2001-03-05 21:24:36
Well Raichu, I dont think poisons were originally intended to be used primarily by packs of warsword wielding orcs that go around with 3 different kinds of poison picking on solo players. It has changed pk dramatically as people have mentioned above. I guess a lot of people like to play like that and noone does much about it, so the solohunters or smallgroup players move away from the hugegroup poisoners. Then orcs bitch that they have to go to bree to get a fight. More ppl would fight out east if they didnt get jumped by 5 orcs with arachnia every time they stepped out of rivendell.
Edvard2001-03-05 22:46:14
i dont think liart has a point. If it was more pracs, then it would just fuck up for the solopoisoners, cuz the hugegroupfollowers can sure spare 20 pracs by cutting down on leadership, having less bash etc... my point is, more pracs = larger poisongroups....
Spellbinder2001-03-06 20:47:57
I agree with Liart, make poison cost more pracs. Could have it as a skill
% for each lore, with the more deadly, annoying poisons cost more pracs
to envenom, ie you get a message like, You are not skilled enough in envenom
to deal with this sort of poison. But then again it might not change much.
one person in the huge group would prac it, and envenom everyones weapons.
But then again it might make um stop every once in awhile to poison again.
Shrug, I hate poison:P
