Nod Sonic *comfort*. What I REALLY wanted to do was storm in solo and quake, then have Trisk and Vecna follow in after but the damn doors popped. I felt like such a putz typing where and hoping for an opening to enter and quake - while my groupmates died. *sniff* But if you could see my equipment, you would understand *shiver*.

Well you didn't actually have the 2 speediest characters/players there with you, both rock as ppl but are sloooow to react :/ good for them you decided to quake, otherwise they wouldn't even have gotten the small comfort of wp/trophy in Halls/Isle

Well as I'm venting out some frustration anyway, I'll use this to state a point! Most of mume players are such of cry babies anyway, if you say someone sucks as a player you're suddenly a nolife yourself simply because you're a better player, or that you noticed that they suck. Lets take some examples: Shimmer, Shriek, Vecna, Trisk, Gad, Xefar, Xagor, Vargas, Sloshed, Torment, Forek, Nacs, Nator, Tezcatlipoca, Elebor, Lowyn, Tia, 90% of trolls, 99% of pukes not mentioned here)
These guys and gals and Lowyn have the prob they don't think fast, they aren't creative. Sure, Torment Sloshed etc. have been on warlords, but do you see them doing anything but whine or participate in midclass pk? They're AVERAGE players even tho they've played years and years, they simply spend more time whining than coming up with character combos or ways to utilize their existing characters skills. In other words, they're plain boring. Then the other people here, the fullsetted legends with good chars but 0 ability to use them in pk, so they have to keep grouping in order to achieve ANYTHING. They can play these 1-2 chars in one way, or they can fol plans made up by others. But they simply suck as players, they don't dare anything, they don't try to learn new stuff. They're also plain boring. Then who's not boring? People like Liart, Mammoth, Rogon, Lothar.. the ELITE players who try out stuff. It doesn't have to be a constant playingstyle, but they have the ability to come up with the kind of char that is FUN to play and spend more time playing than whining how much playing thisandthat sucks.

Now to the point of that post: Why on earth do some people play MUME if not to develop their skills? Is it so much fun to be a midclass player all your mume career, and really feel like it's wasted time? I sure as hell wouldn't have fun playing 5 years and still sucking. What has Forek for example ever done to improve the class of his playing? or Shimmer? or Shriek? or Vargas? all these guys are set in their ways, afraid to explore, afraid to do anything where they might lose their fullset. And whats the excuse? that they have a life? then fucking go enjoy the life or get a pair of BALLS to at least explore, so you can better spamfollow the people you fol, maybe someday you can be as Fingeror+Snick, where both can lead and make up one good team together. Your constant attempts to "help other people" won't be worth shit when you can actually risk their lifes since you don't know anything bout the thing you're trying to help them with. You really want to be worth 1/2 player in a fight? Oh btw. I'm an asshole, I have no life etc. so spare your comments. I can state those facts myself too. But I'm 100% fed up with the MUME players that play play play and play, whine whine whine and whine yet keep on being the AVERAGE players they are.

Aha on closer examination, now at least I know who wyrak is. Your comments on Snick/fingeror are legitimate. However if I'm not mistaken those are labmates, giving them infinite advantage. btw, I have warlorded before as another char if that raises my stock just a tad bit in your wonderful eyes Wyrak. Put me in the Torment sucks group!

Oh and one last comment, if you want average people to get better, stop being dickheads when they ask you for questions and advice. If you are all so good Wyrak, then be a teacher, not a pain in the ass.

I'm not sure who Wyrak is ripping here. Me? My groupmates? All of us who play the game? Hehe, I never profess to be anything more than a player with decent but not great skills, average [semi unstable link], a fair use of tactics and nerves of steel. I love to 'underkill', charge into nearly hopeless situations, etc. and see what comes of it. That's when it's fun to get a kill. Not some overkill, bashtrap, call-trap, overpoison kill, etc. Geez. I remember some player stating "well, we needed eq so it was ok to bashtrap him with four of us". Blah, I prefer to play with average sets and depend upon tactics, guile and bravery in order to have fun with the game.

Wryk has some good observations but really only to a point. Players that are
willing to adapt their characters and playing styles to the current rules
of the game tend to "have more fun". God only knows
how many updates Moonglum has gone through to adapt to the game rules.
The frustrating part is that not everyone
wants to change their style/character to the ever changing game rules.
To make Mouser truly useful for pk I would need to
become a poison whore ..... unfortunately that goes against my vision for Mouser
so I slug it out with the skills/abilities I have (which are not good for pk.
Having been here long enough I also understand that classes/skills come into and
out of favor ..... I am just waiting for things to shift back to thieves again.
As far things like bashtraps/call/poison and other unbalanced features .... keep
exploiting them and ultimately they will be changed. Quake was the most recent
example..... Moonglum had finally wiped out enough legend characters (or the right ones)
with his stored quakes that the damage was finally changed. I imagine bash traps
will change soon too.

The fact that you can actually use tactics Moonglum puts you one step above the mediocre player here. I know people will flame me because now they think I think of myself as a "great" player, however I try to learn, I've played this game for a year and am developing, however most of MUME players are just crybabies that never took advantage of the HUGE world they've built us, instead they just spamfol.

*cough* and i thought the idea was for each person to enjoy the game in their own way. Obviously wryak only believes this game should be played one way, his own, and thats the only fun way to play mume. Kinda makes ya feel sorry for the guy.

As I read the comments and see a player critizing me, I wondered to myself, who is Wryak? Never heard of him before. So I whois is him and see he is the player of Thwag. Nice, a player from Finland. Almost all the players he listed have one thing in common. They are from North America. Almost laughable to hear a European with a nice link telling us how we are uncreative when he has a link that we can't even dream of. Many of those you listed are MUCH more skilled than you Wryak, and if they had the link you'd see a noticeable differance in their performance. If you hadn't of attempted to copy Rogon for a short period nobody would even know who you were. Why not show me an example of how you were creative that justifies YOU being able to make any sort of comment like the ones you made.

I would like someone to show me logs of Rogon or Liart participating in Fun pk trying out fun stuff or not having a consistant playing style. Crypes Wyrak have you even seen these in pk, they play very similar, run around in groups with poison, and try to overkill solo people, and Liart occassionally traps.

Name 1 of the ppl that I listed that is from "north america" and more skilled than me. What does link have to do with creativity? You spend most of your time online whining, xping in noc, or pking in the same fucking way every session. Rogon just did a #1 warlord with a solo warrior altho he had lots of luck scoring the 2 kills that gave him the wps, but yet I didn't see him whining around noc like Torment does. Even Trapgum uses his mind to come up with stuff, unlike Shimmer who just idles around till she finds someone to get her the pitiful cpl of wps. I personally don't have ANYTHING against anyones style of playing as long as they -play-, in case you didn't notice, I concentrated the "flame" on the people who have no skill in the "real" areas of mume, the challenging part. If you like playing your 1000 room MUME instead of the close to 20k that I like, then why not play some computer game instead? doesn't require link to play BG2 and I'm sure you enjoy the 100 rooms it has :P You guys whine how boring MUME is, have you ever tried exploring the REALLY fun areas? do you have any clue what it can be when ppl like Nazgum and Axel meet in moria and a fight ensues? I've fought a naked Labero in moria 1:1 back when I had even less clue than now, he got me down to 4 hps being NAKED against my half set pukemage. SKILL COUNTS, I've never been even semi hurt by any of Torments chars when he's solo. Why? because he never tries to anticipate ANY of your moves. He just blindly follows a few rooms, spams into some central places perhaps, but basically he's only harmful for newbies.

Anyways, some of you guys should perhaps think of my point rather than whether this makes me an asshole or not. As I already stated I don't need to be pitied for being lame. Personally I couldn't care less if you can't consider the constructive points. I've often been followed/grouped with people who have played longer than me, have an ego and can't accept the possibility that they are totally handless in some aspect of MUME and could use the time to learn. How many of you "leader" types constantly wish their followers would be more skilled rather than just sheep to be led around? Why is it that there are different casts in MUME? there are the leaders, the solotypes that never dismount, and the redshirt followers.

First lemme say one thing. I don't have anything against anyone unless they act in a childish manner (example: P(Jandor) threatening to come fly out to where i live and beat the hell out of me in rl because he forbid me to talk a friend of his). I don't mind helping Norsu, Nazgum ,Moonglum, Torment or anyone other player for that matter. But i will say one thing. You won't catch me doing the same thing over and over. This game is way too big to just be another number in a group. I love to solo about, nothing to worry about but myself and my crap link. If someone asks for help, i'll help if its in my ability. Its what i do best right now. Anyways i'm trying to figure how you know my playing style? I've never grouped with you and none of my chars have ever died to you or your group. I think i've been in like 2 or 3 logs and in all of them i can't see where i would make you feel that way without you saying the same thing for yourself. The gate fight? It was great, sure i died but hey its a game. One must learn to not take MUME so seriously or you may become a raging lunatic when your done for the night. Sure it might tick me off for dying linkless or mobbing but i take that risk. I play from NORTH AMERICA, on AOL, on a 56k modem, on a phone line that dates back to when this house was built at least 50 years ago. I have tons of ideas, things i wish i could do. But i play on a +800ms link that freezes and constantly kicks me. Its not that i don't think fast enough or that i'm not creative, its the fact it takes FOREVER for a command to execute. Almost every day i'm on i can see at least 4 of my moves bunched together before my char moves. It was my fireball that brough Sonic down to wounded which in turn got him killed by quakes. I love Tolkien, and once you've found a great thing its hard to get away from it. This game has the most replay value i've ever seen. I try my best to learn, whether it's when I'm playing a troll or a storeporting puke, obviously I've storeported a lot (0 stored ports w Uhan, 2 with Eral when I was trying to guard linkless Asanda INSIDE BLOCKED PRIEST, but Baphomet killed him anyway even after his trolls yelled they won't kill :P). Some of you spend 0 time learning, 95% of their time whining and 5% playing the way they've always done. Just think about it maybe? :P OR you can flame me, feel free!

I've had more legends autodelete than you've made Wryak. Have tried pretty much every char class, including hybrids, and warlorded many of em. Please try and remember you are doing what I've already done 8 years ago. By now I'm fairly certain of the char class I like to play most and the one *I* enjoy. I know all the stuff in the game I care about, and don't see the point in learning new zones so I can find new places to kill bears and boars, or new places to trap as the case may be for some.

I've never had a legend auto delete, not sure what it makes me, a learner a whiner or whatnot!
