Well the Affarsvarlden Gen was hammered last week upsetting my international index fund somewhat. A 35% drop in the first quater is indicia of Sweden's growing dependence on the major capital markets most notably the United States. A fantastic country to live in (other then dreadful winters and disproportionately high suicide rates), though the cost of living (via onerous taxation) are reducing its place in an expanding Europe. Still too argrarian but a lovely place to visit. Oh, and they have really fast links to mume....

In the early 70's, sweden had the world's highest suicide rates. Since then, it's changed slowly over the years, and last i saw, sweden wasnt even on top 10. Not sure if we were before or after USA even. But it's interesting how people how a myth continue to live on and people keep repeating it without having any idea what the truth is. *hug lochdale*

Oh i didnt say sweden didnt have high suicide rates, i just said we're not near the top anymore, etc, but compared to the average, etc, maybe we are high. This is pure speculation but the high suicide rate could be related to Seasonal Affective Disorder, which is where certain people become exceedingly depressed when the length of day light is short.
