Well, what can I say, not much I can do when the flee system remains as such :)

Bend in the Trail
The narrow trail makes a sharp bend from west to north here. To the west, it
climbs steadily toward a high pass. The trail is in bad shape - frequently
it is almost blocked by fallen rocks and small landslides. The high peaks
that surround the area gleam with pristine white snow.
A hungry warg is standing here, ridden by you.

Ya see how LONG my flee attempts were? I felt like I was frozen in time, trrrrrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnng tooooooooooo o o o ooooo
mooooooooooooooooooove

That's my boy, sees 4 pukes alone, and goes AGG!!! rar!!!!!
Celol2001-07-26 01:36:10
You failed 3 flees in the last engagement that you ripped at, not any more/less than before just slower.
Rogon2001-07-26 01:44:14
Actually its 4 flees, and if you could flee like old flee, it would have been possible to try like 10+ flees in the same time with some spam
Sic2001-07-26 01:45:40
2 sprays in 1 flee *shiver*
Ramangth2001-07-26 01:51:06
The scary part is he was had max hps for wimpyflee. Good lord.
Evan2001-07-26 02:07:51
Comfort ! From log i wouldnt be surprised if your dex sux.. And crits who reduce
a lousy dex dont help. Woo another view of the lousy flee change.
Saber2001-07-26 03:27:06
Rogon, wouldn't it be 10 flees if you had a decent link with the old system, and maybe 4 or 5 (and possibly 5 more spammed in, that get backed up on your screen as you are waiting on the first ones to go thru) if your link isn't so great? I'm just asking b/c i'm curious
saber2001-07-26 03:27:47
btw, die orc die!!!! muhahaha (ok that was my comment for log)
Unknown2001-07-26 03:48:15
Booooooooooo-hoooooooooo...
Everhate2001-07-26 04:26:47
I play from one of those 'slower links' Evan, and can tell you this change does not at all help me, and has certainly harmed me when trying to flee from big groups or faster linked players.
Everhate2001-07-26 04:27:39
Oops, should have been to Saber, and being another slow linked dude should know what I mean hehe.
Wryak2001-07-26 08:21:29
Thing is he got only 3 fleeattempts, if you had old fleesystem he could have spammed 20 flees, since obviously he wouldn't have cared whether he flees back to the room or not, the whole point would have been to evade those spells.
Problem:2001-07-26 11:51:17
No way! You are fighting for your life! Prespamming commands doesn't help you.
Rogon2001-07-26 12:38:07
Saber, an average slow us link = 200-300ms, thats 0.2-0.3 seconds. This flee is like one attempt every 1000ms (per second) its a big big difference.
Rogon2001-07-26 12:56:44
If someone plays mume with a 1000ms+ link and only tries to flee when he see that his former flee failed, he probably wont notice a difference with this new flee system.
Devastator2001-07-26 14:39:32
This flee is once a .5 second, so everyone flees like a fucking 14k bps modem 500 ms link. I could flee 5 or 6 times in a second before, this just is silly.
To: Problem2001-07-26 14:48:46
That is NOT the problem. He's already FLEEING when he starts spamming those commands. Read the log again if there's something you can't figure out.
Elestir2001-07-26 15:32:56
If I am not wrong, one heart-beat on mume or however they call it (min. time unit in which something can happen) is around 250ms. Thus old spamflee caused around 4 flee attempts per second. Nowdays average flee-round takes around 1 second, so current fleeing is like 4x slower on average. So current flee has similar effect like action-flee on old system for player with 1000ms link. Maybe its part of the artificial lag code Ainur were talking about on 1st April.
Nerf2001-07-26 15:42:32
Rogon, I think 200-300 m/s U.S. link is actually kinda fast when you are playing from a normal modem connection...
Nighthawk2001-07-26 15:49:08
Why not code it so that people with faster links can get faster flee so people like Rogon can be happy
Turviniel2001-07-26 16:40:44
Elestis - even if 1000ms link player spams flee lets say for 10 times, it didnt
mean in old system that he managed 10 flee attempts in 10 seconds - it means
that it takes about 1000ms + heartbeat-time (250ms) for the game to react.
After that all goes normalle - rest of those 9 flees go in asap - ie 4 per second.

My opinion about this flee is - POOR WARRIORS who wear metal.
Elestir2001-07-26 20:01:14
Turviniel, read again my comment please. (i was talking about action-flee, not spamflee)
Rogon2001-07-26 20:26:07
Nerf, 5 years ago most people played on a dialup modem connection. Why talk about what people did 5 years ago? Today most have better connections, and i know many americans with 150-200ms connection, i even heard one guy claim 100ms, no idea if its true tho! and if a 1000ms(why do we compare with a link slower than the guy in the log has anyway) spams 10 flees, it takes 1000ms for the first, 2000ms, 4 flees, 3000ms, 8 flees, 3500ms, 10 flees, thats 3.5 seconds. with old flee and a MUCH slower link than shrew probably had, he coulda tried 10 flees no doubt, where he now got 4...
Ramangth2001-07-26 21:01:52
A T1 connection from East Coast at 3:00 PM EST gives me 143ms avg.
saber (plays fr2001-07-26 21:06:30
ramangth, can i come over and play on your computer? ;)
Nighthawk2001-07-26 21:18:36
Hey Rogon, wouldnt reverting back to old flee or speeding up this flee be what you call 'pussification'?
Evan to Everhat2001-07-26 21:29:48
If u dont get it. I do not like that flee-change thats why i call it lousy !!!!
Yeah could sound like i was beeing sarcastic but i was not.
Rogon2001-07-26 22:38:34
No nighthawk, i dont believe removing control from the players and forcing them to do something slower than what they could do on their own is a move away from pussification. A step away from pussification would be to remove move delay (the move delay for solo players - not the one for groups), speeding up battle rounds with 25% (they were slowed down 25% some time ago) and increasing all damage on weapons and spells with 10%, then we'd see players die in open area fights instead of only in traps/stabs/poisons/tons of failed flees.
Nighthawk2001-07-26 23:31:56
Isn't the end result nearly the same? I mean doesn't increasing battle speed/damage sort of do the same thing as slowing down how fast someone can flee?
Jon2001-07-27 06:27:25
What rogon trying to say is.. he's too fast for the game. 8)
It's not chess! It's PK! Those who don't dare.. stay W of Brandiwyne.
There used to be times ofcourse when swedes had like 20times faster links
and mume was a lot faster.. then the fast mume was a problem - link decided a lot.

Now i can't see why fast players should be hindered that much by the game!
Chessification i'd say.
Nighthawk2001-07-27 16:36:16
Oh great now a new word is made up. Chessification
Nerf to Rogon2001-07-28 01:21:02
Hey, I hear ya, but not everyone over here has great links if theyre not playing at college or whatever. Cable modems aren't a dime a dozen yet around here, I wish they were
Gluaksh2001-07-29 00:19:49
Being an american and playing via a regular modem line, I'd like to point
out that by spamming flee and direction alternatively, I could flee no
slower than the average Sweede. Granted, it leaves you pondering 3 zones
away, but that beats just standing there.
