Its Hard but little a bit possible to bs with good hide skill. U sneak into room & hide quick then wait until mob search message & then bacstab him :)

Nod Enkidu - on another mud I have played, hiding before backstabbing is standard
procedure. Stab won't work on all but the lowest mobs unless you hide first.
On Mume the act of hiding takes a long time (often long enough for a mob to find
you), especially if you don't do it -quick-. Hide thorough is great for when you
are being chased, but less useful for attack. The hide before stab procedure
definitely works here. However I am a legend thief with max sneak and almost max
hide - I wonder if mid level thieves may be impacted by this change more?

Fact is that within the last few weeks (maybe it was the mob aggressive-ness change) thiefs have been serverly crippled. If you have over 105% stab/sneak I think you wont notice much change, but if you try to make a char without max dex/per resulting in 95-100% stab/sneak you will have problems exping. I've been playing MUME for some time and it seems every now and then they fcuk up the thief class, so I am confident they will change this soon.

I must agree with Sleth: shooting is now almost _only_ way to exp as lowbie or midlevel. Missile is powerful skill and I'm afraid of future - this may change.
And *nod* Merlin, two last years have made thieves from most powerful class to one weak crap=(

Heh, Merlin "for some time" is an understatement, but yes thiefs have been crippled over and over again during the last years. Or rather as da guys with power like to call it "balanced". But somehow they always balance their changes a bit to much at first and then change them back a bit. This is the way it always has worked and prolly will always will work.

I've been legend thief since almost a year ... Got stab sneak and hide to 100+ percent ... it's really harder to stab
since last change!
I miss almost 70% of stabs ... (sensed or seen)! Thinking about chaning from almost true thief to defens warrior!
Midlevel thieves got really problems with this true thief act!
Got myself missile to max. If i fail backstab i stay infight and shoot.

Thief was cool to play. Jope it will be again!!!!!

Well lets see the logic on Wurzl comment. 100% in sneak and backstab, missing 70% of his attempts. Now 'thief class balancing' logically should be 50%. Even 50% of miss attempts with a skill you've got to 100% is silly. Hard to explain myself but I hope the majority of you get the idea :o)

Change all the lil mobs not to flush quick..i mean i dont mind for werewolves and shit like that,but for bandits and stuff? well..it sucks cause its really low levels. I mean lowbie thieves usually only wear plain leather..and when got hit..even with hit from brigands..it usually has a already a bad damaged when impact..so please..change this.

nah dont change anythin more, thieves are enough weak. Remeber all if gods change anythin this not so good for race which they are tryin to help. Lower mp coste when you track sneakin and thief could be playable. now if i stab anyone i have no mp to track him and finish. hmm maybe time to give bn thieves some more practs in missile? now is 5 for this who dont know. i dotn even think about endurance or parry etc. aha but when you goin to change anythin ask us first if we really need this hmm.

My first and last characters and all in between have been thieves. I did notcied that backstab is getting very hard to suceed in, and that with the awareness of mobs now it is hard to sneak past anyone sucessfully. On the plus side our abilities of parrying and dodging seem to work very well. Every class has its flames, thief class seems more troubled, but taht is that. (Besides do you know hard it would be to backstab a rabbit in real life?!)

just a note on the % of backstab skill and stuff....i dont know if it even works this way, but the way i always saw it was, backstab 100% represents my skill in this being very high. my target's skills and abilities will affect the outcome of any backstab attempt.

Stabbing works just fine. Each mob has a different searching pattern, and once you figure it out, you can stab the shit out of just about anything. The only problem is when there is more than one searching mob in the same room. Just hide quickly in the room, wait a bit, check out the pattern that the mob seems to search in, then stab when you think there is a chance to get one in between searches. Most mobs won't reveal you even after several searches if you hide successfully in their room. Also, a lot of mobs dont see in the dark, so u can stab em full of holes at night with a bit of nightvision. Instead of just trying to spam stab on everything mindlessly, try to find the mob's weaknesses and 'hit em when they aint lookin'. With such a powerful skill as backstab, it would be stupid to make every stab land or even 25% of stabs land. I have to agree tho that moves suck ass as a thief, especially when trying to track and sneak.

Retarded logic. I have 110% crushing, I should always hit my opponent right? *and* I should do even extra damage since I have higher than 100%! Thieves are by far the easiest class to play and easiest to solo with by anyone who has a reasonable clue as to how game mechanics work on Mume.

To Everhate. Being the uberstabber (or was) I know for sure that playing a pukemage is by far the easiest.

The change I meant was when your parrybonus went aggro when you wielded a bow (or something similar atleast) as of before you kept it at wimpy level, although you lost the parrybonus of the weapon.

Lotta whining about nothing. 1) Whoever posted this log is a newbie thief and has no right to try to represent other thieves. 2) It's piss easy to get by this new search/flush issue - try before you whine. 3) Dev - be quiet. :) 4) Stab was shit BEFORE these changes for anyone below level 15 or so. Shoot was far more effective anyway. Why not compliment when they made it possible for you to shoot/flee again, effectively? Shoot/flee is now far more powerful since they removed 'you can shoot and flee at the same time'. And no approach on shoot. And no delay. C'mon, get with it, stab is not the only attack method you have - if anything, i'd say I got more kills through shoot than stab. The *ONLY* thing you have to really complain about (and noone's made this point, unless I missed it inbetween the whining :P) is that anyone who doesnt want to get stabbed just needs to stand with a mob of most any sort now (rather than, say, running to olog, or to a ranger) and they will probably not get stabbed (or they are very unlucky, and stabber enters during the mob not-searching-pattern). That's the bit that sucks some. ***ANYWAY*** apologies for long comment, but seems to me that there's a lot of whining on this one, and not a lot of thinking...

Why do thieves think EVERY mob should be easy to stab, making a thief able to solo anyhing in 2-3 stabs? If you miss 70% of your stabs, you STILL do damage on mobs faster than a lone warrior, or a mage with mana regen included. Quit the fuckin whining.

lisen any thief is gonna suck til ur about level 21+ atleast this guy who made this log is proply a lowbie as relim siad , but well i mean i have played many thiefs and i know how it changes, and if ur a level 10 trying to use backstab , thier is no way in hell its gonna work to the point where u want it too , so if your looking to level a thief i woud go with my way of doing it *cha mood wimpy , use a quick bow, set wimpy high , and just shoot flee. and if ya wana see how good shoot is just take a look at rasta's log's now he is one hell of a pk'er shoot is a very powerful skill and it will always be good specialy against casters.

The problem is not only that backstab sucks atm, you cant escape with sneaking any more if any mob reveals you, and 3 darkies spam hit *hobbit* :(

hmm, playing thief now gives me about 50% of search, and 45% of sensing, whilst having maxed sneak and stab. 5% chance i get any stab in, so pretty much i gotta stab them to bad/awful (mooooves x_x argh) then shoot em dead. when old wight shatters through my dodge tho, not easy :/
but then again, that's only my puke scout

I had Mume's first warlord thief, and still have several most people have no idea who they are. I just spam leveled a new thief, but just couldn't get into the char cause for me that class is totally boring and beyond easy to play.

sorry I missed the boat on this one ....... this type change is standard fare
for mume especially with respect to thieves ..... someone gets idea in their head that thieves are too easy
to play and they need to be fucked with. Well I enjoy playing thieves cause I don't have to be group
to exp. With previous system there were still plenty of mobs that were unsoloable.
Stab was set up so you didnt have to hide to use it ..... now its a pain in ass
and nearly unusable with multiple searching mobs. Guess its time for a
vacation. I only hope they improve this system soon.
(also I am not sure how shoot has improved on exping .... now you
get hit after the first shot ... used to be able to flee prior to that.)

some more mume "improvements" %chance of bash landing could be dropped ... no sense even 25% of bashes
should land..... also lengthen inaction time for a failed bashed. Hmmmmm I dislike
casters .... lets lengthen spell casting times and increase mana costs ... makes
no sense I should eat more than 1 fball by a mage at a time...... each class
has its +/- ..... its just sad to see some happy by current "improvements" when
such ugliness can easily occur to other classes
