I have always said sortie is the lamest "feature" around, what fun is it
to insta-mobrip? thats a good 6 hours of xping down the drain at least.
I bet that *dwarf* bragged about his "kill" for quite some time :P
lame pukes lame lame laaaaaaaaaaaaame! I will avenge your death in
BM with the blood of 1000 newbies!!
Casque2001-10-06 01:24:54
Shrug.. at least you didnt mobrip.. i was doing sage just now and started fleeing at full and got out one mobrip later.. not to self: Dont tank sage with max 155 hps. Ps: Now i got 167 max hps after mobdeath, so i will try again when depression is gone.. and then i will get my revenge.

Er..this is most likely the same Glorfindenl who soloed Gothmog and his mates and killed them. To maintain some basis with the books Glorfindel should obliterate any darkie he sees without even the suggestion of a contest. You heard the horns, you took the risk and you died. Boo fucking hoo.
Vorlin2001-10-06 05:15:19
Ecthelion was the one who slew Gothmog at the fountain of Gondolin (and died doing so). Glorfindel fought an unnamed Balrog on the escape route leading away from Gondolin, and also died killing him (both fell into the abyss at the edge of the path). Source: the chapter of Tuor And The Fall Of Gondolin in The Silmarillion.

*nod* Vorlin, gg newbies *cough* lochdale *cough* who have never read a page of tolkien in their lives and play a mud about it?
the Pelf2001-10-06 06:45:41

Heh, I was the noble elf. And I was trying to keep you around till sortie came.

It worked :P Too bad Balthazar got away. :(
Unknown2001-10-06 09:27:26
there's a glorfindel the elf lord in rdell in third age and second age. second age led rivendell cavalry against angmar when they routed, and glorfindel is the elf in lotr that finds strider and co near last bridge :p
Ramangth2001-10-06 18:07:43
Some say Glorfindel II is the reincarnation of the original Glorfindel.
Lochdale2001-10-06 21:21:42
Tolkien never answered that question re: the two Glorfindels but no two elves have the same name...BTW, you are correct Vorlin, my error.
Vorlin2001-10-07 02:46:13
It wouldn't surprise me if the Glorfindel from the route of the Witch King is the same one that helped the hobbits get to Rivendell. I like to think that they are. It would certainly explain why sending him alone would be considered sufficient. :)
Lochdale2001-10-07 20:44:41
I think the power of the High Elves can be best explained by using this example: Gandalf soloed the Balrog and it basically destroyed him. Many High Elves regularly soloed numerous Balrogs and beat them, and on many occassions lived to tell about it.
belkira2001-10-07 22:23:36
backfire and his damn trolls
Vorlin2001-10-08 04:34:43
Lochdale, I don't recall anything like that. As far as I can remember, Gandalf was the only one to kill a Balrog and still live (him being a Maiar he was technically the equal of a Balrog, who were originally Maiar). The other two solo Balrog fights I can recall were the one-on-one duels mentioned above where both parties perished. The only other Balrog fight I know of was when Feanor met Gothmog and his posse, and we all know how well -that- worked out... :)
