are you sure they are illegal? i have asked tons of times if they are.. and none said they were.. if you bump into them and then get that door as doortarget is one thing, but i havent heard anything about look east .. shrugs..

That action is not illegal...Only actions trigger on game output are illegal like for example *dwarf* opens bla bla door set to bla bla or e e e the door seems to be closed door ser to door! open door e :p hope you se my point but that action is not illegal! asked tons of valas and ainurs!

I agree with Ramangth I saw that post that manwe or some other high up god wrote...he said that kinda "look s" action was illegal...I have informed gods many times about this..and they all say "hmm,...well..I dunno" what kinda of an answer is that..if you dont know..find out...it cant be hard to find people that use them..since they all post their logs...

David, your safe. We've had this discussion a zillion times, why don't you guys get it? What was deemed illegal was making your client respond to output from the mud. Setting a variable is not responding to the output, but autoopen a door, or similar is responding to the output. And Zblam=st;ride is legal. Don't know why that one is legal though, if you ask me it shouldn't. (Well, yes I use it, why shouldn't I as long as it's legal?)

I thought this issue was made clear enough a year ago. I was valed for using #Action "leading %1" = #var $dir %1 action. There I pointed out that if this action is illegal, then also would be illegal actions a'la #action "The %1 seems to be closed." = #var $door %1, #action "The %1 is closed."=#var $door %1, etc. Therefore it was clearly stated, that action, that is based on other players events, a'la "leading %1" = #var $dir %1, "%1 closes %2" = #var $door %2, would be illegal. I'm making examples with variables, because it is irrelevant if the information is loaded into variable (and then you have alias to execute the variable), or the command is executed instantly. Therefore "leading %1" = #var dir %1 and "leading %1" = %1, deserve exactly same punishment. Shortly, in my logic, look dir, #action "The %1 is closed." = #var $door %1, would be legal, cause it does not depend on other players actions in any way.

As I said, the action {The %w is closed.}={#var Door %1} is legal, but something like {~* closes the %w$}={open %1} is illegal. And having an alias {op}={open @Door} is legal, but having the action {~* closes the %w$}={#var Door %1;op} is illegal. Although thats why they made the new command open exit, now you don't need a doorvariable, and thats why it's legal. As to whether it's legal to have a trigger that changes your dooraliases according to where you are, I have no idea, thus I do not use it.

I think when used on normal 'named' exit/door this actions are oki, cause they give you no advantage over 'exit' commands. But when used on open hidden exits they become illegal cause you can't use 'close exit d' there for example, and in this case that action give you advantage. Because you probably don't turn on/off this action in such a cases they should be completly illegal and they are almost not usefull at all, nod mammoth.

The reaction time of your character is just too important in mume combat. It's the Quake of text-based muds. Anything that improves your reactions gives you an edge, the more the improvement, the greater the edge. Thus mume management finds itself locked in an awkward war with the mud community, since the vast majority of mudders use clients for the express purpose of improving their reaction times. People aren't going to stop using clients, and it's unlikely at this stage that mume's coders will redo the basic game mechanics of combat, so this 'Is it legal? It's not legal! Yes it is!' type discussion will likely go on more or less for the life of the game.

I thought that if :YOU" looked in a direction, then it was okay to have your client set the door as a binding ..ie look south - the rubble is closed - door is now set to rubble.

As for the irondoor is closed from the other side and the irondoor is now set to door, dunno about that one.

With the implementaion of 'exit' you don't have to trigger on game output to open the door you last bumped into.
Just rebind your move keys like {s;#var $door=exit s} then have an alias/binding for #send ("open " + $door). Does the same thing as a trigger to set a variable to the name of the door from the 'seems to be closed.' out put, but this way is all legal.

Actually the 'look' output trigger is a bit worse (in the terms of getting an edge through client, and thus has more reason to be illegal) than the 'bump into' trigger, since you then could trigger on 'xxxx is open.' and thus get names of hidden exit stuffed into variables too. Which ofcourse can't be opened by 'open exit'.
