The Barren Plains
Flat and somewhat featureless, baked solid by the scorching sun over many
years, the ground is totally bare in places where the wind has swept
unrelentingly across it. Patches of stubborn grasses still cling to the earth,
drawing water that lies sheltered below the shell of hardened soil; sometimes
eaten by roaming animals in need of moisture.

Hollin Road
This road was once a monument to the friendship between the dwarves of Moria
and the Noldor of Eregion, but over the millenia since Sauron overran Eriador,
the road has fallen into a state of great disrepair. Even though the dwarves
lived in Khazad-dûm for centuries after the elves left Hollin, the west gate
of Moria was kept shut, leaving the quiet lands of Hollin to the beasts and
birds.

Streambed of the Sirannon
The river trickles over the large rocks, creating a good habitat for mosses
and lichen. The flow of the stream is not even close to what it was in years
past, now bearing only a trickle of muddy water. When the river was at its
fullest, only the stout of heart would have attempted to negotiate it. Now
though, you can safely walk over the damp channel. The Misty Mountains can be
seen in the east reaching far into the north. To the west are the lower,
warmer lands of Eregion.

Hollin Road
Still heading north-south here, the road begins to pass a large rock
mound to your east. Not a small mound, more like a small hill of barren
boulders, it stands firm, unyielding. Hills lie on your west, with trees
and holly growing in abundance. The air is pure, and the sound of water
running close by is comforting. The water you surmise, is that of the
diminished River Sirannon, winding from the West gate of Moria to its
destination of Ost-in-Edhil, far to the west.

Outside a Woodhall
A long wooden building stretches before you to the east. Rectangular in
shape, the brown log structure looks very old. The mortar in the cracks
between logs is all but vanished. Only the solid construction from which it
was made has saved it from becoming splinters of timber. Examining the logs,
you see that they are remarkably strong despite the ancient design. The
forest around you grows thick, providing a natural camouflage for the ruined
lodge. It would take much effort to detect this place from most anywhere
besides right in front of it.

Standing in a small clearing, you are surrounded by trees of pine, fir, and
aspen. The ground you are standing on is carpeted by a thick layer of fallen
pine needles and leaves, making traveling here easy on the feet of both mount

to your north-east, and more of this forest continuing to the south. Just to
your east however, there is something strange about the woods. They seem to be
hiding a wood-walled dwelling beneath their thick boughs.

Woodlands of Eregion
On the edge of a large forest that stretches northwards, you look around for
possible danger. As the trees do not grow chokingly thick, you can see that
the forest is quiet and peaceful, though one can never be instantly aware of
hidden danger. Various types of trees grow in the woods, and they are
complemented by a large number of holly bushes and other plants. To the
south-east, the Hollin Road winds alongside the riverbed of the Sirannon
as it cuts east-west across Eregion.

Woody Hills
Miles west of the Hollin Road, this thin forest is green and spacious. Thicker
woodlands lie to the north, the dense trees dwarfing the ones on this rocky
slope. Holly grows abundantly, as it does in many areas of Eregion. To the
north-east a ways, the hills rise steeper and less woody. To the south-east,
you can see the riverbed of the Sirannon cutting across the land. Though the
hills are rocky and close to the road, animals still roam leisurely searching
for food.

Woody Hills
This thinly wooded forest lies miles off the Hollin Road, which is located to
both the south and east. More of the same terrain is to your north, leading
into a thicker woodland. The ground is soft due to the fallen leaves, and
rustles softly under your feet. Holly bushes grow wherever they are given a
chance, bright green in some places, darker in others. Rocks are scattered
among the foliage, forcing you to either climb over them or go around.

Every once in a while, a distant wolf howl breaks the idyllic scene set by this
grassy hill . The howls seem to come from the thick forest to your east. In

and jagged.

Grassy Hill
Paralelling the dense forest to the east, this grassy hill runs north-south
between rough mounts. Lush vegetation is all around you, made possible by
both the fertile soil in the area, and also by the plentiful amount of water
here. Animals are using the pool to bathe in, clean their food in, and to
drink from. The hills to your west are inaccessible from here, as the decay of
rocks forming the hillside have made unstable cliffs.

Just off the Road to Moria, or Hollin Road as it is called, these hills
overlook a rich forest to the north.
You can hear birds chirping happily, and
larger animals foraging for food among the woods. Almost directly below you,
at the base of some cliffs, is what appears to be an abandoned wooden dwelling
of some sort. Though not able to traverse the unstable cliffs, the woodlands
that lie further westward look passable. Further south, past the road, is the

of the Noldor.

A Thick Clump of Trees
This particular section of forest has grown incredibly dense. On your east,
the Redhorn Way runs east-west through the area. Originating at the massive
west gate of Moria, it runs westwards toward the ruined city of Ost-in-Edhil,
and beyond that, Tharbad. Around you are more forested hills, except to the
north where a pile of boulders has found a place to accrue. Faint lines are

Rolling Hills
The hills you are in are relatively small compared to the massive peaks of the
Misty Mountains in the east, but are high enough to provide a good view of
the land. Geologic shifts have caused the rocks to break to your east, forming
unstable cliffs. Looking down the cliffs to the east you see the Hollin Road
below and the riverbed of the Sirannon further in the east. Rocks dot the
hills, and holly grows wherever it can. To your north and west are more hills
of this type, with rich woodlands beyond. To the south it is possible to reach
the Hollin Road.

Peaceful Hills
Still above the Hollin Road below, you cannot make it directly down because of
the unstable cliffs. In the north, the hills seem to become less steep, perhaps
opening a way for you to get down. Not heavily forested here, the main plant
life seems to be the holly bush, giving more evidence as to why the men of
Eriador called the region "Hollin".

Woody Hills
In an apparent area of transition, these small hills join thick forest on the

Animals find this a nice place to roam, and are seemingly unconcerned with
