Comfs, that gotta suck
Crumpet2002-02-04 13:26:41
I have had to resort to the following solution (note how dire my addiction must be...)

* purchase USB GSM modem and driver software
* bring my personal mobile phone into the office
* install nasty proprietary internet software to connect to the net without going through office Local Area Network
* plug the above into my company laptop
* pull out the 10baseT ethernet connection
* dial up to my private internet service provider using mobile phone & GSM modem
* play MUME :-)

lol

Isn't mume.org open on port 23 ?

Seems the firewall at my work just did a restriction on port 23 :(

Toe2002-02-04 13:45:31
oh.. I get it?!? port 23 is down on mume ?
*a Troll getting his hopes up*

USB GSM modem provide decent link ? 150 ms is a minimum i think.
Crumpet2002-02-04 15:02:12
No.

USB GSM modem = 9600bps (bloody awful)

but it's the only way I can connect until someone turns port 23 back on

(bastards)

i think it is pretty silly to pay whatever it costs in for a mobile phone connection just to play mume, in sweden it costs like 6-7kr/min and that would be something like 60-70 cents/min, and that is alot to pay for some mume hrs at work:P
Foad2002-02-04 17:11:57
errm, fuck my comment was fucked there *think* between the in and for is there

Well, Eldamar said that you could connect to another server w/ port 23 and use telnet from that server to Mume, but I haven't had any luck. The only other servers I have a log in to are firewalled too. I am also trying to use BBS but they usually limit telnetting out entirely or to an hour.

My link is not too great lately, but anyways - the forwarder on ramiris.silicon.org listens on ports 23, 443, 4242 and 8080. The official MUME server binary listens on 4200 (it might be unstable at times). If that does not help, a HTTP Tunnel Server is listening on port 8888: check http://www.nocrew.org/software/httptunnel.html and get a tunnel-client there. Do not bug me for help setting it up, especially not for windows! (above does not reflect mume management opinions, neither is it offically approved)

Axel, your suggestions kicked ass. I downloaded puwtty at work and used the ramiris.silicon on 23. I went around the firewall! Thanks bud.
Nice site, btw...
Thanf2002-02-05 04:10:02
try ramaris.silicon.org 4242
Crumpet2002-02-05 10:18:00
Axel

I LOVE YOU.
Rokee2002-02-05 14:04:20
THANKS TO AXEL, I could connect today through ramiris.silicon.org 23.
mume.org 443 was going through my Firewall before the crash. Could someone explain me why mume.org 23 does NOT work but ramiris.silicon.org 23 works now for me?
Rokee2002-02-05 15:08:48
More precisely, my question is:
How can mume.org 23 be bloked by my firewall, but not ramiris.silicon.org 23?
Mandor2002-02-05 15:48:45
Mume.org doesnt listen on port 23 any more, the problem isnt in your firewall.
