An Old Trail by a Fortress The weather-beaten old trail makes its way through the endless plains of rocky grases, following the southern edge of the thorny hedgewall of Cardolan. At this point, the hedge to the north has been burned and cleared and a wide path is now possible north. Beyond the hedge, the most prominant sight is the great hill of Amon Sul. The surface of the walls around the gate has become discoloured from the rust that pours off the iron bars. Castle Yard The castle walls loom above from all sides within these grounds, with some stairs leading up to the top of the walls. The stairs have many cracks and holes in them, some steps missing completely. There is a large stone building over towards the corner of the yard, with some letters etched in the stone above the doorway. Some grass grows in patches all around the yard with mud covering the restcovering the rest of the land. A Great, Dirty Cave This is a low, wide natural cavern. The walls are quite rough and contain many crevices. The ceiling above contains a hole five feet across, where the process of erosion have removed the chalky rock. Someone has made an effort to cover this hole, as a large stone slab has been laid above. A timber post is wedged into the floor and under this slab, perhaps to lever it open? The floor contains a hole similar to the one above. The tell-tale signs of claw marks on the walls, and thon the walls, and the strong odour reveal that trolls live here!
