Hot diggety damn! That was an exciting log!

Nice playing there, Mabel, and _KUDOS_ to gods, especially Nienor, for helping you out as quickly as they did. Though as Manatark said that the bug had been reported, I can't help but feel it should have been fixed or at _least_ something should have been put up on news to warn any would-be raiders of bm that they were doing so at their own (increased due to bug) risk. Of course any raiding is always at one's own risk, but that hardly takes serious bugs into account. Anway, nice to see cool logs like that for a change :-)

Peer, its the old huge negative eff level malus, it's been there for quite
a few years
remember when city defences were disabled?
and bns had huge maluses behind crack? same story
gh just never had its malus removed or downtuned, i doubt it was due to
oversight
*a Hobbit*2000-08-30 03:52:45
That should teach ya to stay outta the shire! >:)
Antar2000-08-30 04:13:39
Bah! And here I am looking stupid (don't answer that).
At least I got to die to Mabel later, and several other Orcs.
And no, it wasn't an overkill. Was a fair fight, I had rangers on my side!
But, this log is hilarious, and I still think it's even funnier that ainur responded so far! (No offense)
Korf2000-08-30 04:24:47
nice slash by mabel on that hardon
Korf2000-08-30 04:24:59
ps-cool log
Tzanck2000-08-30 05:03:39
would've been a fair fight if elroh hadn't wussed out on you, otherwise you
were toast.
Johannes2000-08-30 06:01:24
I know p(Mabel) is a good player and all, but he didn't play very nicely
here, Cur :-p Sure he got fucked but he could have followed the road a
lot better, even if panicked and all. I actually thought dudes like him
never panicked, heh.

Oh and p(Nienor) is a she I hear...
Ariakan2000-08-30 06:06:17
Did ya run goldenish after oermg? i thinkin that man there was me, were you one i fought w/ a bit around golden?
Grishnak2000-08-30 06:37:58
That's always happened in severe mali zones - I remember bobbing once while trapped inside Bree (people were spamming gates shut when I was killing gatekeeper, so I picked myself into a legend home and waited a bit). I ended up losing moves from the bob :-)
Mabel2000-08-30 07:07:30
To johannas: I always panic :) And i don't know zones w of bree
so hot at bad hps as bn i just spammed like crazy :p
Uldrak2000-08-30 07:19:26
Yeah it was nasty to get out last night, you had to burn alot of draughts.
Desastre2000-08-30 09:21:21
You gotta love how some players get insta help when they pray, and some others of us just get a cold shoulder. But besides that, nice move by Nienor. And nice panicing.. :P
Cur2000-08-30 09:36:18
Johannes: True, he could have followed the road better. But like he said, a bn at bad in shire equals spam for most of us. Granted, some ppl know all of Arda off the top of their heads and never miss a beat, much less the road. Me, I never travel much west of bree, so I'd have a hard time finding my way from gh to bm, much less spam at top speed from gh to bree without going off-road a little. I guess you could say I'm too clueless even to be a bree legend :-)

What I meant to say is, I think he did a good job of surviving in -extremely- hostile conditions (don't get much more hostile than MUME code itself trying to off you), though he might not have come out of it with unruffled hair, polished armour and clean fingernails. Or whatever. :-)
Darkwind2000-08-30 10:09:04
i remember that liart told me a year ago that bob drain moves instead of giving around gh. so nienor shouldn't have given you any moves =)
or something
Hannibal2000-08-30 11:33:03
hmms.. hopp, log sucked.. but im glad we got some new logs, gettin kinda boring to be online =)

interesting bug though =)
Smrtihlav2000-08-30 14:04:05
happened to me too before , but its ONLY GH zone , just use 1 draught and go zone
e and u can bob etc ...
and no need to spam so much e :) its pretty safe to stay w shire, i was there
with smrtihlav 2 hours with some 10 pukes after me
Vanimelde2000-08-30 14:43:38
Our group almost died to that shit, we were 3 orcs and me (Mabel zapped) and
as I bobbed the entire group got to slow/weak. And 10 pukes on our necks,
seriously, fix that shit.

How did you get out from the hideout? Thought it was difficult to pick (the dwarf
opened it for you?).

And Johannes, who know rtgh/east road? None but the General I guess.
Eothen2000-08-30 16:18:02
Nienor rocks!
Unknown2000-08-30 18:05:00
had no idea it was THAT easy to walk through shire.
Duvel2000-08-30 19:53:42
*hug* Nienor.

Btw, Johannes. If you follow the road you wil meet tons of pukes all hardons all bounders all mobs who you do not wanna meat so it is not too stupid to spam some off the road =)
Alweon2000-08-30 22:09:41
What kind of BN mage are you!?
You slash a hardened ranger's body extremely hard.
You victim is shocked by your hit!
*tickle*
Invader2000-08-31 00:13:07
Interesting log, but Im amazed/shocked by all the attention you got from
the gods just by praying BUG :)
Baphomet2000-08-31 02:48:02
Well Invader when he dies he gets on Immort and spams, is why they were
quick to respond.

PS - I have no immort so i wouldnt know. THIS IS ONLY A THEORY
Jocke2000-08-31 08:07:53
*** for the quick response on the prayer. That never hapends to anyone else.
Pampalini2000-08-31 08:32:33
I thought, that nasty bob at gh was implemented on purpose. It's quite funny,
when u are sitting in cave and reading this log. Btw Nienor is best Vala in
this game right after Sauron :P
Grumli the Dwar2000-08-31 16:23:00
So is this a bug or a feature ..... havent been able to tell from the log
or comment.
Were all of these nasty maleuse (sp?) zones suppose to been eliminated?
What zones are they? Didnt seem that you were all that close to gh.

Was a nice move on nienor's part .... I imagine he/she catch some grief for it.
Nienor2000-08-31 22:29:29
Nice work getting of there, Mabel. Glad to see you made it.

Hehe I just got to read all these nice comments - thanks so much. Yet as most people probably guessed, I didn't do much and what I did was not a big deal for the following reasons:

1. It was a genuine bug. If Mabel had never managed to cast the spell due to backfires or cast it with zero or next-to-zero effect, given the malus in that zone I would have said it's a feature; but it was clear that negative mp gain was not supposed to happen.

2. Mabel had actually wasted mana, mps and even hps while demonstrating this,
so restoring at least the mps (which were eaten by the bug) seemed to be only
fair. (I failed to figure out fast enough if I also owe Mabel any mana or hps,
so it was good to see he managed to get out without dying.)

3. I did the easiest, the cleanest (barring my inability to figure out fast
enough the mana/hps issue) and the least intrusive thing: I only restored
Mabel to the approximate state where he'd have been if the spell didn't eat
his moves. I did not trans him out; I did not change the situation in any
other manner. (Looking back, I gave him more mps than he was probably entitled
to, but I didn't know how much the spell also drained his mount - and let anybody else try and do it cleanly given the speed at which this developed.)

4. It is always easier and less frustrating to prevent possibly reimbursable
deaths before they happen rather than to get them reimbursed after they
happen. Had Mabel died there to that bug, I don't know if this would have been
reimbursed since chances are it wouldn't have been the only or the main cause of the death, and if it had indeed been judged reimbursable, I bet we'd run into all kinds of problems - somebody would loot the equipment, it'd take an Arata to reimburse the exp - in short, awful mess.

5. Believe it or not, most of the V+ try not to ignore players who pray about bugs (especially if something is deadly), but sometimes we aren't there and sometimes (too often, I know) there is just nothing one can do.

6. No, I don't really expect others to have many problems with what I did. Believe it or not, the MUME management doesn't really want anyone to die to bugs.
Tairach2000-09-01 12:16:38
Why didnt you cure self before running through Shire?
As Smrtihlav said there was no need to run e of shire. Next time just block self behind some door (preferably nolocate or empty of mobs, best with 1-way backway - there is place like that) to get rid of rangers and rest up.
