The Tale of the Run of the Elven Scout

Setting: In a house in Bree old friends and new acquaintances are sitting down and exchanging tales.
Critos, Bethos, Lissë, Einalem and I (Londriel) are present. It has become Critos turn, and he begins like
this:

Critos says 'this is a tale of an elven hero ...'

Bethos smiles happily.
Lissë beams a smile at Critos.
emote tilts his head as he listens to %Critos.

Critos says 'the mists of time flow and fog over history but deeds are not forgotten'
Lissë listens to a true tale as critos speaks.
You drink the mead.

Critos says 'It was a cloudy and foggy night, an elven Scout, riding with a dispatch of
great importance'

Critos says 'riding hard, he had stopped his mount at a small way station to rest a
moment and get a remount'
Lissë beams a smile at Critos.
Bethos quietly closes the door.

Critos says 'gathering his remount and riding again he once more rode hard, rode until
he was within sight of his final destination, only to see the smoking remains of the way
station'

Critos says 'and his final destination. '

emote rises and stands tall, raising a hand to his brow as if scouting far into the distance.

Lissë shivers uncomfortably.
Einalem feels the loss he woudl feel.

Critos says 'he rode into the outpost, his eyes filled with despair, his heart filling
with anger'
Einalem nods in agreement with Critos.

emote sighs, his shoulders slumping, and a pained expression on his face.

Critos says 'he knew he must get this dispatch through. even though there were no more
way stations, no more resupply points, nothing between the outpost and Rivendell'

emote looks at his hand, holding it as if there was a document in it.

Critos says 'he grew determined, not to let the sacrifice of these brave men have gone
in vain'

emote nods grimly to himself.

Critos says 'he quickly scavenged what supplies he could.'

emote grabs a few imaginary things.

Critos says 'and rode forth, riding hard, his already exhausted mount, went lame.'
Einalem hopes he had enough water and his steed was strong.
Einalem gasps in astonishment.

emote pats an imaginary mount on it's neck, whispering something in it's ear.
Einalem thinks of the poor mount.

Critos says 'with a tear in his eye, he quickly put the horse out of it's suffering.'

shiver

Einalem gasps in astonishment.
Einalem bursts into tears.

Critos says 'and began running and running hard.'
Lissë wipes her own eyes.
Einalem weeps for the loss of the fins steed.
Einalem wonders how long his legs will hold up.

emote clenches his fist and moves his arms back and forth, as if he was running. His eyes scout about in the
meantime.

Critos says 'exhaustion begins to set in after a day of running and even more so of no
sleep.'

The storyteller yells 'Hoho. Come to the Prancing Pony and donate'
Einalem looks downcast as it seems all hope is lost.
The storyteller yells 'whatever you can for my stories.'

emote wipes his brow with an arm, and his movements are more labored, his gaze fixed firmly in front of
him.

Critos says 'he keeps going, ignoring the burning fire in his legs, the exhaustion of
his body. '
Lissë says 'he endured so much already'
Einalem applauds the effort of such a man!
Einalem nods in agreement with Lissë.

Critos says 'he keeps running on, refusing to succumb to his bodies needs.'
Lissë smiles happily.

emote holds an arm to his side as he keep going, his eyes squinting.
Einalem thinks that is rather foolish though understandable.

Critos says 'after days of running, he finally sees rivendell in the distance.'
Einalem shows her approval by clapping her small hands together.
emote raises a hand to his brow while standing in a slumped stance, scouting into the distance.
Einalem breathes a sigh of relief but knows that more trials are still to come.

Critos says 'the fair city, I've done he thinks as he runs towards the city, his legs
pounding the ground but with new found strength'
Einalem looks up hopeful.

emote runs again, a triumphant expression only slightly tinged with exhaustion on his face.

Critos says 'as he runs, suddenly a Nazgul steps out from behind a bush'
Lissë pouts.
Einalem gasps in astonishment.

emote gasps and takes a step back, his hand going to his sword.

Einalem knew such a thing was goign to happen.
Lissë gasps in horror!
emote looks to %Critos for further directions.

Critos says 'he stops, drawing his sword and says "leave me be foul one, you shall not
stay me from my errand"'
Einalem begins to fidget as she waits for the next part of the tale.
emote draws his sword with a flourishing motion.
Lissë smiles.

Critos says 'chuckling maliciously the Nazgul hisses 'you've run far, I've let you run
this far, only so I could see the look of hopelessness and despair upon your noble brow
as I kill you'

emote doesn't look hopeless, but rather proud and defiant.
emote enters a balanced stance, with one hand stretched forward and his sword poised for strike behind
him.

Einalem grimaces at the cowardice of teh Nazgul.
Lissë shivers fearing its the end for the poor tired man.

Critos says 'The elven scout yelling his battlecry charges the Nazgul, swords clash,
again and again as the scout strikes and parries, but the Nazgul's sword keeps drawing
small cuts weakening the already physically exhausted scouts body.'
Einalem thinks till it hurts.

emote cries out "A Elbereth Gilthoniel!", and his sword becomes a blur before him as he dances into battle.

Einalem smiles happily.
Einalem cheers on teh tired man! hopign her energy will keep him going!

emote 's motions become slower as he mimics being cut in the arm, on his leg, in the shoulder..

Critos says 'suddenly as the scout is about to receive the last blow he thinks he can
take, the sun rises, turning and running with everything last ounce of strength he has,
he makes one final run for Rivendell.'

emote whirls about, his cloak flourishing around him, and he leaps away from the hopeless battle.

The door is opened from the other side.
Veneficus has arrived from the south.
Veneficus closes the door.

Einalem fidgets and fidgets...

Critos says 'As he nears the gate, the guards see him, his clothes torn and shredded,
his body bloody and torn, he finally collapses as the guards come out to assist him.'
Einalem gasps in astonishment.
Einalem breathes again at last. colour returning to her face.
Einalem beams a smile at Veneficus.
Einalem gives a round of applause.

emote collapses on the ground, struggling to draw the document from under his body.

Lissë hopes he survives at the end!
Einalem nods in agreement with Lissë.
Veneficus ponders life, the universe, and everything.

Critos says 'he grabs the nearest guards hand, slamming the dispatch into his hand,
telling the guard what happened to the outpost and telling him to get the dispatch to
Elrond'
Einalem nods solemnly.
Veneficus says 'rp?'

Critos says 'the scout says 'move quickly, Nazgul, not far behind'
emote raises his hand, which is held so it might be holding a document, and with his last strength he raises it
up to an imaginary guard,
Einalem nods in agreement with Veneficus.

Critos says 'the guard nods and turns and runs.'
Einalem says 'Tale telling'
Lissë whispers something to Veneficus.

emote slumps to the ground again.

Lissë sniffs sadly fearing the worst.

Critos says 'slowly struggling to his feet, he grips his sword and turns to see the
Nazgul approaching'

emote rises, and with a struggle he draws his sword again, swaying lightly as he holds it in both hands.

Einalem shivers uncomfortably.

Critos says 'standing he assumes a stance as the Nazgul comes charging in'

emote enters a balanced stance, with one hand stretched forward and his sword poised for strike behind
him.
emote makes a faint motion with his outstretched hand, "Come on!", it indicates.

Lissë holds her breath.
Einalem is flabbergasted as to how he can have the strength!

Critos says 'being weaker by day, the Nazgul brings his sword up for one last strike at
the poor scout as the scout, sensing his opening, lunges with all the strength he can
muster.'
Einalem says 'or the will.'
Einalem gasps in a gulp of air then holds it for all her worth in her lungs.

Critos says 'his sword cleaving through armor, rending everything in it's path'

emote whirls about himself, bending in the knees and in a fluid motion he ends in a kneeling stance, his
sword plunged deeply into an imaginary body.

Einalem jumps out of the way of Londriel's sword!
Einalem be careful dear friend!
Einalem pats Londriel on the back warmly.

emote sends a quick guilty smile in %Einalem s direction.

Einalem says 'So was the ringwraith slain with that last blow?'

Critos says 'cleaves through the Nazgul, as the Nazgul's clothes collapse to the ground
in a crumpled heap of rags, the scout collapses one last time on the ground.'
Einalem shows her approval by clapping her small hands together.
Lissë sighs.

Critos says 'his sword breaking'
Einalem Cries Hail the Scout!!
emote stays for a moment in his kneeling stance, but his sword moves slightly, then he releases his hold on
it, and both he and the sword falls to the ground haphazardly.

Critos says 'his body having given everything it had left, slumps to ground, a lifeless
husk.'
Einalem gasps in astonishment.
Veneficus shivers uncomfortably.
Lissë weeps sadly.
Einalem cries for the loss of the life of such a noble man.
Einalem bursts into tears.
Einalem cries on Lissë's shoulder.

emote makes a long drawn out breath that ends in silence.

Critos says 'his body, carried by the elves to the gray ships, given a hero's funeral,
his name scribed upon their most cherished volume'

Lissë says 'a glorious death yet such a loss of one so brave and strong.'
Veneficus shows his approval by clapping his small hands together.
Einalem nods in agreement with Lissë.
Lissë beams a smile at Critos.
Einalem bows her head in silence for a noble soul.

emote grips his sword and places it on his chest, still lying on the ground, with both his hands folded on the
hilt, and with his eyes closed.

Lissë says 'a wonderful tale the best in a long time'
Einalem nods in agreement with Lissë.
Einalem gives a round of applause.
Critos says 'with his dispatch, the elves were able to rout the impending attack by the
orcs'
Lissë reaches over taking critos' arm, using all her power to heal it or at least take
some of the pain away.
Einalem nods in agreement with Lissë.

emote rises, and smiles happily to %Critos.

Bethos smiles happily.

Critos says 'I hope you all enjoyed that'
Lissë says 'I did I did'
Lissë shows her approval by clapping her small hands together.
Einalem says 'Wow that was a tale that shall go down in teh ages to come.'
Lissë nods solemnly.
say Thanks for the tale Critos. And yes, tremendously. I do hope you did not mind my acting the heroic
role in the background.

cast normal 'create food'
get mushroom
eat mushroom
You start to concentrate...
A magic mushroom suddenly appears.
You get a magic mushroom.
You eat the mushroom.
drink flagon
You drink the mead.
You do not feel thirsty anymore.
You do not feel hungry anymore.

N.B. Let me once again implore mume-imms to make the hungry/thirsty-messages toggleable. Meaning that
the messages would not appear, but the character would still suffer the penalties from not having been
eating/drinking. In Roleplay, those messages are merely needless spam, for the player if they are ignored,
and for everybody if they are not.

Nice story, in Tolkien's style.

Unknown2001-07-03 11:11:00
wasn't rivendell like...not a city?
isn't it supposed to be hidden from sight?
sorry to be such a pain, but I thought it needed correcting, great story otherwise
*The Nazgul*2001-07-03 11:45:09
You would be telling your story to the worms if I had been able to practice
some warrior skills *nod self*
Alcion2001-07-03 12:59:57
I liked the mimic alot!
Manatark2001-07-03 13:07:20
Nice :). One question remains though: Was the elven Scout boy or girlscout?
Manwe2001-07-03 13:16:56
Was more of an eagle scout, I believe...!!
Tsejov2001-07-03 13:23:17
SHITTY LOG, EVEN MORE PATHETIC THEN THARAINS
Tharain2001-07-03 13:25:20
Thanks tesjov, you made me feel SOOOO good
Elmir2001-07-03 13:34:06
As always I might have missed something! Searched for R.I.P and there were no results! Heard it was RP? Kewlio, keep on going boys in the hood.
Almariel2001-07-03 13:47:55
This belongs to the tales board.
Brakk2001-07-03 13:59:27
I'm just amazed. :) That really happens on MUME ? Invite me to the next ?? :)))
Aschit2001-07-03 14:20:01
I used to spend lots of time doing that! It's just evidence that PK and RP don't exist well together on Mume: when I stopped RPing extensively, I warlorded! (Of course, that probably has more to do with the 30 pounds of RP gear I ditched and my somewhat improved link than anything else)
Forin2001-07-03 14:25:37
Fake log obviously, Imladris does not have any gates, and why didn't the Nazgul ford?
Alcion2001-07-03 14:39:35
You're such an idiot sometimes, Forin.
Edvard2001-07-03 14:42:03
was it a good log?
Tsejov2001-07-03 15:20:21
above comment wasnt me, i dont know who wanna comment under my shitty name ;)
Rogon2001-07-03 18:15:07
I got bored after 20 lines or so, not much of a roleplayer *blush*
Fredde2001-07-03 18:56:24
i noticed you dident have any space for evil lobsters in that tale. sigh
Thaedil2001-07-03 21:18:29
Loved it..and please do invite me to your next session
Londriel2001-07-03 23:01:02
Thanks for all the many nice responses. I must admit that I was a bit worried about being heavily flamed because a rp-log is a bit unusual for this place. I am happy that some enjoyed the log, and happier still to find people interested in joining our RP-sessions. For those of you who did not enjoy the log, thanks for keeping your comments polite, I appreciate it.
Ragaz2001-07-04 00:13:33
POut..Im sad i missed this wonderful RP session, and much more to miss my friends in doing anything. I enjoyed the tale and the actions by Londriel..ill be sure to be present on to the next one...=)
Wryak2001-07-04 11:11:48
The story was totally pathetic though, no creativity at all :/ your idea of RPing was quite good, though.

Einalem2001-07-04 15:48:38
*smile* This truly is what Middle Earth is all about. The most enjoyable time I have had in a long time! thanks to my dear friends there at the time. *hugs*
Critos2001-07-07 07:05:57
well, for thos of you that didn't like my log *shrug*.
To quote some old storyteller who's name I should probably remember and don't
The best story's are told for the author's own enjoyment, no-one else's, as the tales should be told.
For those of you that did like my story
thanks,
and believe it or not ***!!!!GASP!!!!**** that story was all improvisation made up on the spot. And I'm glad you enjoyed it, as I enjoyed telling the story.
Andróg 2008-05-13 22:24:37
Nice log, interesting to see that this kind of thing even exist(ed) in MUME!
