How would you like a settings in your options with the choice to ignore every post which does not have a golden star on it?

That would mean that you will not see any post made by unknowns or people posting as other names than their registered aliases.

You will not be able to know who the person (or account) is, just the Mume character.

There will be no way of checking if two names are played/controlled by the same person.

Would you use such an option, or would it just make people annoyed?

I'd most likely never use such a thing.
Björn 2004-05-27 14:46:40
Somehow the most amusing comments often come from incognito people :)
Mandor 2004-05-27 14:58:57
True, but most of the annoying comments too. And it would be toggleable per user.
Iomene2004-05-27 17:14:50
Good idea.

i dunno but i am just an unknown:D

>You will not be able to know who the person (or account) is, just the Mume character.

Sorry, Mandor, I had to read this a few times. Did you mean to say "You will not be able to know who the person (or account) of the golden-star-marked post is, but you will know that he owns the MUME character by that name"?

In any case, I won't be posting under any name but Unknown, so I will not be ignoring Unknowns. But if somebody isn't intelligent enough to realise that people have reasons to want anonymity, and that frequently anonymous posters have something to say, I don't see why not give him the option to ignore the anonymous people. His loss, and us Unknowns will get insulted less.

I don't give a rat's ass what you do. I'm all for individual choice, though, so maybe it is okay. People who use it will miss the good stuff and won't understand "discussions" between the ignored people and people with stars, but I don't give a rat's ass about them. It won't change anything for people who don't use it, so I don't give a rat's ass for that reason either.

I must say, however, that if you are going to invest time into innovations, you should a more productive use of your time. Maybe you should ask for suggestions for improvements to mume.net and hope you get something besides a bunch of rats' asses petitioning to "ban Sogard." Or maybe that really isn't such a bad thing to hope for, too, because he's a rat's ass but I don't give a rat's ass about that either.

P.S., if I ever needed to post something with a star but remain more "anonymous" than my registered character (who I can't remember who that is anyway), I would just make a mume character, register, get a star, post my stuff, then disappear. But I ain't gonna do that so you don't have to give a rat's ass about it except to consider that some rat's ass might decide to do it.

Unknown, I don't know what you mean really. (And to be honest, it's a bit confusing when everyone post as 'Unknown'.)

What I mean is that if you register several characters in the same account, there is NO way for users to see any connection. Characters are separated. People have no way of seeing a list of player A's characters, nor if character B also have character C or if that is someone else.

What you _will_ know, is that the poster with a gold star use the same name on MUME, if D posts here with a gold star, you can be sure that he/she is the real player of D on MUME.
Tushie2005-03-23 18:40:50
I probably wouldn't use it.
Gillykun 2005-03-23 21:58:06
Well. it may be useful, but as one of those unknowns out there said, people wouldnt understand discussions, it would be a better idea to ignore posts of someone with golden star, there are some ppl that no one wants to listen to
Caejis 2005-03-23 22:26:14
Or be able to ignore specific names in general. That way, you could ignore anybody who comments as Unknown, but not as an actual name, or if somebody tends to simply spam, flame and whine, you could ignore that name, but not the entire discussion.
Sometimes, the verbal abuse is just too blatent to simply mentally ignore, or you miss the name and end up reading it anyway.
Mandor 2005-03-24 01:50:46
I dislike ignore. If you can't stand reading what someone writes, just don't read it.
Sogard 2005-03-24 18:27:57
I probably wouldn't use it some people might, but they'd only see about 5% of all the comments since mume.net has always been popular for hiding who you are. ;)
Unknown2005-03-24 18:32:16
Sogard with some of your bullshit opinions you probably SHOULD hide who you are.
Sogard 2005-03-24 18:48:59
