You know what I notice? Every player of MUME that's been around awhile always says how good old MUME was. I remember it faintly, and I would LOVE if they would put up a copy of old MUME. Dain had done it for awhile a little time ago. I know it would be a bigger drain on the system, but I know I would kick in maybe 50 bucks to make it work. Anyone else agree/disagree/flame me? :-D
Alantir 2004-07-03 05:11:06
Let's splits the HUGE player base into even smaller parts?

How about letting Dain open an old version for a week or two every five years and be happy with that...
Snakr2004-07-03 14:21:05
how about format mume machine's HDD and burn all backup CD's? i would be happy!
Milzok 2004-07-03 17:25:41
I definately like that idea Ukhor.

Somebody actually wants on-tick regen back? Yuck.
Unknown2004-07-03 20:39:53
Nostalgia is blind. It's only when they put the old game back up that you realise how shitty it really was. Not that the current game is much better, seems that with every decent change they bring in a shit one to balance it out.

When dain hosted mume6 for a few weeks, i played it more than the normal mume version because some of the things were just different, and more fun, like stats rolling. :P
Staer2004-07-04 15:54:45
Mume 6 will never be back, so move along, if you dont want your account nuked.
Ukhor 2004-07-04 16:51:45
Yeesh, it was just an idea Staer, no need to trot out the big guns.
Mandor 2004-07-04 17:05:13
Ukhor, notice the lack of a star on Staer's name. Then remember what the star stands for and how serious you should consider that post... :-)
Snakr2004-07-04 18:56:08
hahahah lol, j0ke of a year!
*pat Staer*
Unknown2004-07-04 19:21:11
"Staer" is right though, multiple MUMEs is a noidea so having mume6 can only happen when real mume is temporarily dead

Ah, I'm just a stupid dude, don't mind me. I don't think I understand WHY we can't have more than one MUME. Is it money? I'm sure we'd have people paying. Is it space? I could even run it, or if people don't like the idea of it run from some dude in New Jersey, then I'm sure any number of people would love to host it. I would even BUY the thing from Ilie if I had to, I mean all the coding, and just run it myself. I know that many people wouldn't like that, and since I'm basically an unknown MUMEr, (or am I, muahahaha) there has to be someone we'd all trust, like aschit or someone. I like him :-D And Snakr, leave me a message, I want to talk to you for a sec, its kind of important. You don't know me, but I want to talk to ya :-D
Mandor 2004-07-04 21:17:42
Why?

Because it would split the playerbase, leaving both muds half empty. And it would increase maintenance, not to the double, but close to.

And Ukhor, when writing long posts, please format (just press enter to get a newline, two enter to get a new paragraph, and so on).

And if you want to talk to Znakr/Snakr, send a message (you find it in the user menu (bottom left on the frontpage)).

Suppose they kept an old version of MUME up together with the current one. Should they support it? Should bugs and features that everybody hates be fixed? Then, not only does it double development effort, but it'll no longer be the old MUME, so the version should probably be entirely immutable, right? And what's the fun of keeping an ancient, immutable, unmaintainable version with all broken and bad stuff up, except for a very short period of time, which is what Dain did (and might probably do again sometime)?
Snakr2004-07-05 11:17:44
owww i feel important!
Threch2004-07-05 20:41:06
I played a ton of 'old' mume, quit for a long time, then came back because of all the improvements to the game. Maybe im a freak, but I like new mume much better than old mume, other than the obvious war point system downgrade. Though, I do miss all the players that left because they strongly disagree with the changes.
Urogh 2004-07-05 21:26:24
Keepin an old mume online might be a threat to mume management - if players would choose an old version of mume then all the hard word managemet has done would be for nothing. I personally woudn't want to be in that situation...
Mandor 2004-07-05 21:52:29
I think you missed my first point, the splitting of the playerbase.
Urogh 2004-07-05 22:10:46
Not really, players choosing an old mume would certainly split playerbase and make all improvements done 'vanish'. Not good in my opinion.
Sogard 2004-07-08 23:27:48
How about they do something like, bring back useful things such as old ford, and rather than this new, even shitter WPs system, they just give us WPs until they make something that isn't stupid?

*wipes out a group of 20 pukes but gets 0 wps because they were noname breelegends*

fun!
Unknown2004-07-11 03:29:22
Make a $20/month MUME6 with current maps (excluding 'updated' zones like warrens/ford/abr) and I would play it over the free MUME.
Unknown2004-07-11 04:56:40
DikuMUD license forbids that, previous unknown.
Angle 2004-07-11 06:25:58
That didn't bother medieva
Unknown2004-07-11 22:05:10
Right, and this violation of the license is how Medievia ended up being outcasts in the MUD world. Not that it seems to have bothered them - money compensates for many things.
Gaz2004-07-20 14:22:05
Put MUME IV back.. I may log in ;)

Gaz who wonders what happened to Hexer ;/

Hexer2005-03-09 04:26:40
Hey Gaz! I'm still around. :) I just finished talking with the legendary old mume player 'Pippin' aka 'Sador' on the phone. "You knew Gaz right?". I said of course, then he pointed me here. We were talking about the good old days. The days before MUME VIII where you logged in and died. :) Give me a call at 816-809-5452 if you get this message.
Aredhel 2005-03-10 02:31:36
Old MUME had Clip-clop. Nuff said.
