Ya know, ya hear about all these meetings in Estonia and whatnot, why don't we have one in eastern America? I can't travel far, seeing as how i'm 17 and didn't get my license yet :- anyhoo, it'd be fun, and i can say hello to people and judge and be like any other teen. although, in all actuallity, i'm the least teen of all teens. unless i smoked weed. then i'm preteen. anyhoo. lol, anyone else interested?

Eastern US is a large chunk of land. For what it's worth, there used to be large numbers of MUME meetings in Boston area in 94-97 or so. But at the time the majority of MUME players were college students (US players, in particular, the majority was playing from .edu. As far as I know, the number of .edu players is these days in single digits). We easily didn't have anyone under 17 (or maybe even 18) at any of them, and these days that's hardly possible, I guess :-).

Well, if we're shooting for Christmas time, I'll have my license and will travel most anywhere. Boston is a BIT too far, but if others travel there I think I could make it. So there isn't nearly as many US players anymore? That sucks so much :( and most of the Under 18 people on here suck so much it isn't funny. They're like, I dunno, Guido. Ugh.

Try narrating about Red Sox some day - you'll immediately see there're some others in the area!
Phantasm 2004-07-17 06:56:45

Sogard 2004-07-17 07:19:07
I'd go, but I'm not really up for driving for 5-6 hours to meet alot of peopel who I rarely ever talk to. If you have it around Pittsburgh I'll go tho. :P
Phantasm 2004-07-17 07:54:53
well lets get it started by seeing where most people live?

I live in new jersey.
Unknown2004-07-17 09:29:08
Ukhor, you do know that Brazil is connected with land to USA, no need to go over any ocean...

Well, apart from that Panama canal, but they have bridges over that.

Where abouts in Jersey Phantasm? I live in Central. :) Well, Unknown, I did know that, but ya know, i'm a stupid young 'un, and I just don't remember these things :>. bah, it'd be fun to meet you there sogard, want to put a face to those outlandish ideas that almost always seem to make sense. :-P so far me, phantasm, and lateralus :) boring as hell if you ask me, three bored mumers with no lab... come on more people! :)
Sogard 2004-07-17 20:05:26
I'm in pittsburgh, PA.
The closest MUMEr to me is Tristian(?) who lives in New York City, which is nice. No real desire to drive to a mume meeting. :P

One reason there are not many North American MUME meetings. And I'm going to use an old quote to tell you why.

"In North America, 100 years is a long time. In Europe, 100 miles is a long distance."

Basically, for those that can't read between lines.

In North America, driving 100 miles is your daily commute to work and the approximate distance from one city to the next. In Europe, its an entire country 3 times over.
Aredhel 2004-08-01 09:47:09
The problems with North America have nothing to do with Canadian stereotypes and everything to do with the kind of people that play. The olden crowd was self-sufficient studenty types with time on their hands. The current crows is either beholden to their work or to their parents, in terms of time and responsibility.
