I've been playing mume for less than six months and there is one thing I don't really understand.
Zaugurz orcs.
Why do they exist? Am I the only one to find this extremely odd? What's the point? They do not appear anywhere in Tolkien's works (as far as I know that is) and they certainly do not add anything to the game.
I really am surprised that all the people building mume actually devoted time to create them, when it is clear that other things that should have been done, haven't.
When I talk to other people about the game, this is the only thing that strikes them as odd. I do not consider myself to be a Tolkien purist or anything, I can understand things like the existance of wizards and clerics with spells, although it is clear that they never existed any in Middle-Earth, but they are needed in order to create an appealing game. But Zorcs don't fit in that description. They seem completely out of place.
Please, enlighten me...

2 tribes of orcs fit the tolken description, one tribe from the north wants to kill frodo, the other wants to take him back unharmed. They hate each other. Plus this third side to the war, gives mume more depth. When you have played longer you will have a harder time finding enemies, this new race of orcs can kill orcs trolls bn's dwarves elves men hobbits. That is the true reason to play zorc is the massive amount of opposition, while the t-orcs can group with bns trolls etc the z orc is on his own and my band together with the tribe to defeat everyone else. Z orcs also have the most disatvantages, like they cannot ride, they cannot remove poison, they cannot cast any spells. Z orc is for only the most elite players, if you feel like killing things with you high level dwarf or max setted staved puke caster is too easy, try warlording a zorc warrior.

Zaugurz orcs are just annoying little buggers. I'm pretty sure management put zaugurz in the game to annoy me and make sure there are more sneakers who i can't kill.

On the bright side, if you're a very skilled pker, odds are your zorc will rarely, if ever, get run down moveless(provided you have the hps to quaff and not go incap).
Altho it's always nice to trap a zorc and have him load half a dozen metal flasks and some normal draught. :)
Zorc mentality often seems to be what torcs were when i first tried one, but I'm always fearful that that will change once more players start playing zorc.

I don't see why the zorcs are at war with trolls and bns, if anything they would be neutral to them. Bns probably have to deal with warring orc tribes al the time, its not a big deal which side they support or which side wins.

FYI orcs and trolls already are "neutral" to each other. Luckily for them bns are "friendly" with both of them...
btw, even bears are "neutral" to rest of the whitie races, so I think your definition of "neutral" is slightly different from the MUME's definition of neutral...
