I think they are one of the oldest mobs on MUME. I believe I remember them from 1993. Some of the weirdest creations from those times (remember troglodytes?) were removed, others still remain.

A lot of mobs are just hangovers from the old diku source code. Perhaps these angry rabbits are one of them.
