When are Giant Battles scheduled?

I think it would be fun if everyone logged their most powerful character and met ABR like once a month RL.

Post it on ER and here, think it could be doable.

However, it might be looked on as illegal... or maybe not... kind of a questionable case it would be...

I spoke with a person who plays World of Warcraft and he told me of battles involving 100+ per side. All organised into squadrons and cadres. Trouble is, all the trolls would have to run home come daytime. Course, could always arrange it for Moria.

Nice idea... maybe those battles could be something to make the story of the game evolve according to its results..
Even organised armies with ranks and all, and not only individuals running around hitting everyone...
Bothos2005-04-26 23:46:23
I always thought that would be a good idea but it doesn't really work with the way mume is set up. Can you imagine the spam of 80+ people hit fleeing and casting?
Andróg 2005-04-26 23:54:28
Well, you either start a bash or start a spell and hope you're still alive once its delay finishes. :P

Actually... if its 20 vs 20 in many rooms (but still a closed area) then I guess one could still understand some, although, the moment you happen to be the 1.something you're bang-dead almost instantly. I remember being in a few ~20 vs 20 fights myself as my warrior, and well, being the ~6th dwarf was pretty peaceful actually, could easily bash my target three times in row and watch him rip. :P Although, once I was the 1.dwarf for like half a sec I lost 150 hps. (Ok, I was on aggro, but still)

Now 80 people, 40 vs 40.... well, if it's in several rooms then I think it could be handled somehow, however if in one room.... well, then I guess one just needs to pray that he's still alive once the huge spam of first ~10 rounds is past and like 40 first people are dead.... :P

Typing "look" then will probably kill your client, though. :P

Dumb idea. I ain't coming. Ain't got nothing to do with playing MUME. Go play a video game or something.
Nut2005-04-27 00:49:18
Luddite.
Sogard 2005-04-27 04:30:28
Nut, if you think 100v100 is large for a MMORPG, you've not heardmuch about DAoC i'm guessing? First time I saw the game a friend was in some massive assult with like 400 others attacking about 300 enemies + an npcguard force.
Arzantor 2005-05-02 14:35:42
Hey 'boo', who the hell are you to say what is to do with mume? Piss off and play D&D or something. Mume is about fighting, end of story.
Aredhel 2005-05-02 23:17:47
A battle with 100 people on MUME is guaranteed to result in massive lag (a long time ago, fights of some 20 people in the same room used to result in lag in olden times - granted the current computer is faster and network bandwidth is larger also - my 2400 baud modem would reliably suffer buffer overflow and die). I am not sure if it is the problem of quadratic feedback or something else, but there you are...
Andróg 2005-05-03 14:07:02
Well, I've been in a ~20 vs 30 (+ tons of mobs) incident *wink shovel* as a whitie.... it was spammy, but I could more-or-less even then understand what's going on... or at least what's going down when I got bashed. :P

But still, in general it's still possible to see what's going on even in such battles, of course it's pretty impossible to keep an eye on anything more specific than "lots of spam and lots of *s"...
khanyon2005-05-04 05:40:57
I agree that all out battles would be a great idea but yes very spammy! My question is why don't pukes rade noc every once and a while damit?
Sogard 2005-05-04 21:43:02
You've never tried to raid NOC have you Khanyon? The elites and GMs are around the same strength as Bree's mobs... then you throw in GG+guards, wolfgate chieftain who tends to hit you from behind and I've had chase me to the trollmobs by VT.

Oh, and let's not forget Takhr and the gnarleds. Takhr, being a rentmob, is extremely powerful, and the gnarleds are all quite buff as well, we'll say they're around muranog's power, even thought they're probably stronger.

Overall, raiding NOC would be like raiding bree, then having a several thousand HP rentmob, that hits like a troll beating hobbits in warrens, come attack your group, then you'd have from generally 2-3 mobs of muranog strength or greater(gnarleds) come, and then wolfgate's chieftain who will chase you around the outside of NOC.

With old block, you could block the stonedoor and do NOC's defense in pieces, but now that doesn't really work, and considering how unoraginized pukes are, and the fact that most legends rarely goto RD let alone NOC, it's not gonna happen much I think.

Also, most west raids by darkies involve lots of trolls, and while some well-setup highlvl whites in good sets could buff as well/better than trolls, there's really no whitie setup to match the raw power. You could use bears, but bears are not nearly as powerful as trolls.
Andróg 2005-05-04 22:52:45
Sogard, raiding NOC is actually rather simple, given you got the right group, and most importantly, a darn good buffer.

*remembers fondly of killing noc thrice in row with Vidomina and Reno as buffs*
Naga 2005-05-05 10:57:33
Heck, I remember raiding BM with a couple of trolls. Lag galore, the sole reason we all got slaughtered like hell there =/

Sogard 2005-05-06 04:56:40
Was that before or after the changes to block, Androg?

Vido, Reno, Elestir, Zaber, they might all be made to be unhittable def whores, but they can't tank every mobs in noc. :)
Andróg 2005-05-06 10:39:34
Before. But considering how it went, this doesn't really matter. The third time we didn't even block anything, simply drove over the defence. :P
Andróg 2005-05-06 10:40:17
oh and you're right. He could tank only all mobs, but the last. For Takhr we needed a "buff-switch". ;)
