Could someone with real info let everyone know what's going on. Ilie's post isn't really from Ilie. so what's the scoop?

I think I read that they are moving the servers, right?

My guess is some network or power cable for or in a hub or near or attached to the FIRE machine got unplugged by accident. No need to panic.

I think that someone has pulled out the cable and now noone can get in and fix because no one works today

but when no one works today, how could the cable get unplugged in the first place?

Good point last unknown. It was rather late last night when MUME went down, and I don't think cleaner would have been cleaning then. Maybe a hub burned out or something.

I just tried tracerouting a bunch of computers on the same subnet. All but one of them (voldsboks.pvv.ntnu.no) were just as unreachable as fire.pvv.org (and yes, I checked that these IPs actually had a hostname associated with them).

I do have a sample traceroute from when fire.pvv.org was up, and it does end at sb-gsw.ntnu.no [129.241.76.34], just like all the traceroutes for that subnet that are failing today.

Thus my guess is that it's not just fire.pvv.org's problem.

If I am right about this, the situation is good and bad. The good part is that it may get fixed without external intervention. The bad part is that it most likely cannot be fixed just for fire.pvv.org by external intervention, and that we can only wait until ntnu.no's admins fix whatever is wrong with their network.

I just saw on the Channel 7 news ntnu.no wen't bankrupt and sold all of the computers at a garage sale over the weekend!! A buck-toothed guy in Ohio was interviewed and was telling how he got a good deal on a server but had to spend over an hour scrubbing something called a "mume" off the hard drive. OMG OMG OMG!!!!

This really pisses me off. I almost get my BN to level 7 after 3 years and now almost 6,000 hours of game play is lost because of some hillbilly from Ohio. I'd like to smack him on his bald head for sure. I'm almost tempted to get a job. If it wasn't for RainbowMud I probably wouldn't have a choice. *sigh*
